Juma Gets a Shove Through; Chetty Busts

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jubal Chetty
Jubal Chetty

Three ways to the J107 flop, Alan Jung and Cliton Taliwanth checked. Hafiz Juma bet 6,000 and Taliwanth was the only caller. Taliwanth checked again the 9 turn and then faced the shove by Juma for 30,600. Two time banks vanished and Taliwanth folded.

In the next hand, Jubal Chetty raised in the hijack and earned calls from Jaryd Jardien on the button as well as Kosta Kotsikaris in the big blind. The latter checked and Chetty jammed for 16,000. Jardien called but folded to the check-shove by Kotsikaris.

Jubal Chetty: AJ All in
Kosta Kotsikaris: 108

The 2 turn and 3 river brought no help and Chetty departed. Jardien mentioned in the table chat he had folded pocket fives.

Howard Lipman

Two short stacks got their chips into the middle against Howard Lipman with Anjan Mulji and Muddassir Ameer at risk in what turned out to be a clash of three premium hands.

Anjan Mulji: AQ All in
Muddassir Ameer: JJ All in
Howard Lipman: QQ

The board ran out K104A2 and Lipman knocked out the two opponents with the nut flush.

"Howard ... only the nuts!" another player at the table remarked.

Chetty Gets a Shove Through

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Hafiz Juma
Hafiz Juma

In the last hand prior to the break, there was multi-action over on table two. Four ways to the 543 flop with a bet of 10,000 out in front of Hafiz Juma, Jubal Chetty pushed all-in from the very next seat in the hijack. Vishal Ghoorbin in the cutoff tank-folded and Kosta Kotsikaris also got out of the way. Juma burned through three time banks and then folded the A2 for the flopped wheel.

Chetty eventually exposed the 86 for straight and flush draw. They even convinced the dealer to rabbit hunt the next card, which would have been the K on the turn.

Marko Nortje

Marko Nortje had nearly doubled his stack after the recent re-entry only to then lose most of it. The remainder went in with the Q7 and he was looked up by Gerrit van der Spoel with the 22.

On a board of A7288, the roller coaster ride gave Nortje a flush but van der Spoel paired up to a full house.

Blom Out and Back In

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Wesley Blom
Wesley Blom

There are flipout tables happening where ten seats with a buy-in of ZAR1,500 award one Main Event entry. Several players in the field are purchasing the seats and among them was also Wesley Blom. It was just announced that he had won another of the flips to secure the seat and that very moment he was all-in for 6,400.

Joe Chan in the cutoff and Rajeev Poonhath on the button called, then checked to the AK748 river. Chan bet 5,000 and Poonhath folded.

Blom exposed the J5 and Chan had him beat with the 44.

"Bring me that seat," Blom joked and re-entered shortly after.

Du Plessis Scores a Big Knockout

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

With the turn showing K934, a player from Tanzania bet 15,000 and El-Juan Du Plessis then moved all-in. The other player had around 25,000 behind and eventually sighed, said "okay" and moved forward some chips for the call.

Du Plessis tabled his KK for top set and had the elimination locked up, as his opponent only had 93. The river brought the 9 and the six-figure pot was shipped to Du Plessis.

"I should not have been in the hand," the player from Tanzania remarked.

Du Plessis joined the biggest stacks with Cassiem Du Toit on the same table also right there.

Adriaan Bekker

Adriaan Bekker was all-in for 15,700 on the J107 before Ivan Jarosz moved all-in over the top for more than double of that. Muzamio Gothey called and they turned them over.

Adriaan Bekker: J10 All in
Ivan Jarosz: QQ All in
Muzamio Gothey: QQ

Both overpairs couldn't improve on the K turn and 4 river as Bekker tripled up. Jarosz won a pot soon after before he then crashed out against Bekker.

Rajeev Poonhath
Rajeev Poonhath

Little Slam finalist Riccardo Rizzo had won his entry for the Main Event in a live satellite at Time Square Casino but was chipped down very early on. He then jammed all-in for around 7,500 on the K539 turn against Rajeev Poonhath, who made the call.

Riccardo Rizzo: 76 All in
Rajeez Poonhath: K9

The top two pair held when the 10 river bricked off and Rizzo was gone after slightly more than half an hour of play.
