Mikael "Greenbay" Gronvik just won a pot and was up to around 45,000 in chips but is now on the rail. Gronvik bet 4,000 into a pot of 6,000 after the came on the flop before Riko Piiroinen raised to 12,000. Gronvik jammed for around 40,000 total and Piiroinen tanked for a minute before he called.
Gronvik looked like he was in pain after he saw his opponent first turn over before he turned over . The on the turn and the on the river weren't able to help Gronvik and Piiroinen effectively doubled up.
Matthias Tikerpe check-raised Mathias Siljander from 12,000 to 28,000 with about 20,000 in the pot and the board reading after the turn and got a call.
Tikerpe checked after the completed the board on the river. Siljander slid a big stack of chips out as a bet more than covering the around 28,000 Tikerpe had behind and won the pot after his opponent folded.
A new record has been reached with the field already reaching 167 entrants to beat last year's record of 165 entrants. Now it is only a matter of by how much the record will be smashed with late registration still open today and throughout the first blind level tomorrow.
The tournament director just announced to the remaining players that they will play four more hands before bagging chips. Late registration is temporarily closed but will reopen tomorrow until the conclusion of the first blind level of Day 2.
The third edition of the Tallinn Summer Showdown €1,100 Main Event hosted by Olympic Park Casino and Hilton Tallinn Park can already be labeled a success with 168 entrants ponying up the €1,100 buy-in.
This is already three more than the record turnout of 165 entrants last year with players still allowed to late register and reenter until the start of the second blind level of Friday's Day 2.
Players began today's deep-stacked action with 30,000 in chips and battled it out for eight hour-long blinds levels.
More than half of today's field survived today's action with 85 players joining those that late register tomorrow. Finnish players are thus far dominating the top of the chip counts with nine out of the twelve players that bagged at least 100,000 in chips coming from Finland including the Day 1 chip leader Mathias Siljander with 241,900.
Siljander captured the chip lead midway through the day after he won a big hand with kings against the ace-queen held by Masse Mirza.
Closest on Siljander's tail are Tapio Vihakas (209,200), Riko Piiroinen (166,800), Kelly Limonova (137,600), and Jussi Mattila (137,000). With two hours left to play and sitting on a stack of around 40,000, Mattila announced to all those within listening distance that he was going to bag exactly 137,000. Mattila had slightly more than this but lost a few chips before the end of the day.
