Tapio Vihakas Leads Final Table of Tallinn Summer Showdown

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Tapio Vihakas
Tapio Vihakas

The penultimate day of the Tallinn Summer Showdown €1,100 Main Event was fast and furious with the 23 returning players battling down to a final table of just eight players in a little more than three hours.

There is a massive gap between the top of the field and the rest. Finland's Tapio Vihakas will enter tomorrow with a chip leading stack of 1,659,000. He will be closely followed by countrymates Mathias Siljander with 1,590,000 and Jussi Mattila with 1,581,000.

The rest of the final eight don't even have one-quarter of the chips of any player in this Finnish trio with Estonia's Toomas Polli (342,000), Morocco's Ahmed Ibrahimi (285,000), Finland's Kim Lindstrom (178,000), Finland's Aki Pyysing (148,000), and Lithuania's Algimantas Jablonskis (83,000) all entering the day with shorter stacks.

Day 3 action

With the money bubble breaking on the last hand of Day 2, all 23 returning players on Day 3 were guaranteed at least a €2,180 payout. Rain Heeringas was eliminated on the first hand of the day with Marius Morel following him to the cashier shortly after before blinds went up.

The first full blind level of the day witnessed many players hit the rail including Timo Ruuska, Jaakko Rajaniemi, Markku Koplimaa, and Ranno Sootla.

Blinds increased again and the eliminations didn't slow down the next hour with Kelly Limonova, Dmitrijs Kornevs, Peter Warfvinge, Andres Loiv, Jari Lahtinen, and Tarmo Tammel all leaving their seats. Loiv was the last remaining player in the field that qualified at Olybet Poker and won a seat to the Battle of Malta €555 Main Event in October for winning a contest hosted by the online poker room.

The blinds increased again and for the only time today there was no player eliminated for the first 30 minutes of the level. Pandemonium then broke loose with three players going out in succession to end the day including Markus Asikainen (11th - €3,800), Igor Pihela Sr. (10th - €3,810), and Santeri Piiroinen (ninth - €4,440).

The redraw never happened as Santeri Piiroinen was eliminated in ninth place for €4,440 at the other table just after Igor Pihela Jr. hit the rail.

Ahmed Ibrahimi opened from early position to 20,000 and got calls from Jussi Mattila in middle position and Santeri Piiroinen from the big blind.

Ibrahimi kbet 22,000 after the action folded to him on the {j-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} flop. Piiroinen three-bet 58,000 and got a call from Mattila and a fold from Ibrahimi.

Piiroinen jammed for 150,000 after the {10-Clubs} came on the turn and got a quick call from Mattila. Mattila turned over the nuts with {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Piiroinen was drawing dead with {j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

The {2-Hearts} completed the board on the river and Piiroinen was eliminated in ninth place for €4,440.

A seat draw for tomorrow will take place soon. Stay tuned for the final chip counts, the table draw, and the Day 3 recap of the Tallinn Summer Showdown Main Event.

Dmitrijs Kornevs jammed the first hand after the redraw with {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and was called by Tapio Vihakas {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}. Both players flopped a pair on the {5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop but Kornevs needed a bit of help to survive. Neither the {3-Spades} on the turn nor the {2-Clubs} on the river were able to help and the Latvian was eliminated in 16th place for €2,410.

Kelly Limonova

Kelly Limonova jammed from under the gun for about ten big blinds with {2-Clubs}{2-Spades} and was called by Jussi Mattila from late position with {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

The {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop was safe for the last woman standing as was the {8-Diamonds} on the turn. However, the {q-Diamonds} paired up Mattila on the river and Limonova was out in 17th place for €2,180.

This means Andres Loiv, who is low on chips, wins the Olybet qualifier last longer contest and will head to the Battle of Malta with a free Main Event seat valued at €555.

The remaining 16 players are now each guaranteed €2,410.

Mattila Eliminates Sootla

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Ranno Sootla
Ranno Sootla

Jussi Mattila jammed into a pot of around 70,000 with the {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades} on the board and the action paused on Ranno Sootla who had about 70,000 remaining.

After a couple of minutes passed, the duo began chatting.

"You are going to fold when you wait this long," said Mattila.

"What makes you say that?" responded Sootla.

"Not many players bluff in that spot," said Sootla a minute later. "But you could be the one, right?"

Another minute or two passed by before Sootla decided to call. He turned over {a-Hearts}{7-Spades} for top pair and was eliminated from the tournament in 18th place for €2,180 after Mattila had the nuts with {8-Spades}{7-Clubs} giving him a straight.
