Roesel Starts to Plummet

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The board read {6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} between Nikita Kutukov and Dale Roesel. There were around 30,000 chips in the pot when Kutukov shoved for a total of 48,000.

Roesel hesitated at first but flipped a switch and elected to call, tabling {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Kutukov then showed his {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} for a batter overpair to scoop the pot, taking a chunk from Roesel.

Kaemmerlen Runs the Board vs. Koch

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Peter Kaemmerlen
Peter Kaemmerlen

Peter Kaemmerlen opened to 2.5 big blind and Russell Koch then three-bet to 7,500. Kaemmerlen shoved and looked surprised when Koch snap-called for his tournament life.

Russell Koch: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Peter Kaemmerlen: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The dealer fanned out {7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} on the flop, bringing a flush to light for Kaemmerlen.

A {6-Diamonds} was safe for Koch but he got out of his seat anyway, almost knowing that the {6-Hearts} river was hitting.

Koch fell to the runner-runner flush of Kaemmerlen who let out a sigh of relief as he just dodged a bullet...or two.

Afriat and Ferro Trading Blows

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Jacob Ferro limped from middle position and Eric Afriat raised it up to 6,500. Ferro called to see the {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Spades} flop where Afriat snap-shoved 21,500. Ferro called and the cards flipped.

Eric Afriat: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Jacob Ferro: {6-Spades}{3-Spades}

Afriat staved off elimination on the {6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} runout, taking back some chips he lent to Ferro earlier in the day.

Ferro Tries to Drop Another Short-Stack

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Dejuante Alexander
Dejuante Alexander

The flop was {q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and there were around 15,000 chips in the pot. Jacob Ferro bet 5,000 and Dejuante Alexander shoved for a total of 29,500.

"I always call in these spots, but I just had a hand where it didn't work out that well," said Ferro. He laughed and then threw in a chip to signify a call.

Dejuante Alexander: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Jacob Ferro: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

A rough spot saw a sweaty {5-Clubs} rollout, "Oh, I like that card!" laughed Ferro but the smile quickly started to depart when a {4-Diamonds} hit the felt. Ferro missed and Alexander took down the pot for a double.

Last Card Always Takes the Cake

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

James Carroll opened and Jason Brewer then three-bet from the big blind. Carroll four-bet shoved 92,500 and Brewer called without hesitation.

James Carroll: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Jason Brewer: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

A safe-looking {q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop fell for Carroll who needed to hold or his night would be done. The {8-Clubs} turn hit the felt and Brewer looked like he was getting ready to pay a double.

"Just one more card, come on just one more!" Carroll said while standing but he instantly slapped his hands together and shook his head on the {a-Spades} river.

"It's always the last card, every time," muttered Carroll as he headed out the door, shipping his stack to Brewer near the end of Day 1c.
