Surma Nearing 100,000

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

A player shoved all in for about 20,000 into a pot containing only 6,000 or so after a {k-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop. One player folded, and Lee Surma confidently announced a call, throwing {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} into the middle. It was way good against the overbettor, who turned up {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. The {7-Diamonds} and {3-Hearts} completed the board and the win for Surma.

"Unreal," Surma said as he added to his already large stack. "I've never ran this good in a tournament."

Surma has had some luck on the Mid-States Poker Tour before though, as he took down MSPT Mille Lacs all the way back in 2011 for a first-place prize of more than $47,000.

Thurlow Fades Fourth Diamond

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Justin Thurlow
Justin Thurlow

Justin Thurlow bet 2,500 on a board of {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, and Brian Zupancich, who had checked from under the gun, made it 6,000. Thurlow came back with 10,500, and Zupancich thought a bit before shoving all in.

"Call," Thurlow said instantly, tabling {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flopped flush. Zupancich held {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and needed a fourth diamond, which he didn't find on the {9-Spades} river.

Thurlow collected Zupancich's stack, which was in the neighborhood of 15,000.

Kasper Doubles Through Birt

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Debbie Kasper
Debbie Kasper

Debbie Kasper reraised after a raise and a few calls, and Jeff Birt moved all in from the small blind. The other players folded, and Birt turned over {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

"She's got that beat," Jon Hanner commented, and he was correct as Kasper had {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}.

The board ran out clean for Kasper, and she got 20,800 from Birt.

Ace Magnets Doom Olson

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Mark Sandness opened for a raise and saw a player behind him three-bet to 1,700. Jonathan Olson made it 3,300 to go, and Sandness folded. The reraiser put Olson all in, and he called.

Olson: {k-}{k-}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Olson didn't have to wait long for the bad news as an ace hit the flop. Sandness banged the table in frustration as the board ran out.

"If he doesn't wake up with two kings there, you lose a lot of chips," Sandness said.

Olson, who had already fired and missed his first bullet, headed out after he failed to find a third king.

Players are on break for 10 minutes.

Wilmes Doubles Up

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Defending champ Mike Wilmes three-bet to 3,600 on the button after Tom Annonson opened to 1,350 in middle position and was called by the hijack. Both of Wilmes' opponents called, and the flop brought {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}. Annonson checked, the hijack bet 4,200, and Wilmes shoved for 8,625. Annonson folded, and the bettor called.

Wilmes: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Opponent: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Wilmes was in great shape against the gutshot, and a {4-Hearts} meant he only needed to dodge a seven. The {9-Clubs} river was safe for Wilmes.
