Mid-States Poker Tour Stops in Michigan

Welcome to the start of the Mid-States Poker Tour main event at FireKeepers casino in Battle Creek, MI. This is the first of three “day ones” and the popular tour stop should draw a big crowd.

The second stop of the year at FireKeepers, Jason Zarlenga emerged victorious in May, besting over 400 entries to take home over $100,000. Zarlenga is the all-time money winner on tour and currently sits in third place in the race for Player Of the Year. He is expected to be in attendance, as are pros Adam Friedman and Allen Kessler.

The $1,100 buy-in tournament carries a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool and allows for one re-entry per flight. Cards are scheduled to be in the air at 4 p.m. local time. The plan is to play 14 40-minute levels, which means things will come to a close around 2 a.m, Friday morning. Then, at Noon on Friday, Day 1b will play out, while Day 1c will follow at the same time on Saturday. On Sunday, all surviving players will combine under one roof to play down to a winner.

Stay tuned to the live reporting as PokerNews will bring you the action over the next few days.

Rolnitzki Active Early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jack Rolnitzki raised to 225 from middle position and an opponent called from the cutoff. Tommy Midena also called from the big blind and the flop came down {7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Midena checked, Rolnitzki called and the player in the cutoff raised to 700. Midena got out of the way and Rolnitzki made the call.

The turn was the {2-Hearts} and Rolnitzki check-called a bet of 1,200 from his opponent. The two players went to the river together for the second straight hand and and saw the {2-Clubs} land. Rolnitzki checked and his opponent fired again, this time for 1,475. Rolnitzki quickly called and his opponent mucked as he turned over {a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for two pair.

Goad's Him Into It

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player limped from under the gun and a player in middle position raised to 1,200, quickly intimating that he mixed up the chip denominations and raised more than intended. Action folded to Gary Goad in the small blind who three bet to 3,100. Action folded around to the original raiser and he made the call.

The flop was {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Goad led for 3,500. His opponent asked agonizingly, "do you have aces?" Goad held his cards out and exclaimed "I'll show," but his opponent made the call to see the {a-Diamonds} on the turn. Goad moved all in and his opponent disgustingly folded his two kings face up.

Goad showed an ace and said "I bet like I did," when asked if he had another in the pocket.

Lamphere Takes a Couple

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

A player raised to 400 from under the gun and Adam Lamphere called from the big blind. The flop was {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Lamphere checked. His opponent bet 900 and Lamphere raised to 1,900 with his opponent making the call. The {k-Clubs} came on the turn and Lamphere led for 3,800 which prompted a fold from his opponent.

On the next hand, the button opened to 400 and Lamphere called from the small blind, as did his opponent from the big blind. The flop was {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Lamphere checked. His opponent bet 1,200 and Lamphere called after a fold from the original raiser. Lamphere check-called a bet of 1,200 after the {j-Hearts} turn. The {5-Diamonds} on the river brought two checks and Lamphere's {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} bested his opponent's {q-Clubs}{4-Spades}.
