JC Chen Eliminated in 4th Place ($28,795)

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
JC Chen - 4th Place
JC Chen - 4th Place

Not long ago JC Chen was on the top of the world, but two back-to-back hands has sent him to the rail.

The first was a major cooler and began when Mike Deis opened for 125,000 on the button. Chen caled from the small blind and then checked when the flop came down {3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Spades}. Deis continued for 125,000, Chen check-raised to 375,000, and Deis pushed back to 750,000. Chen announced that he was all in, and Deis called off for 1.595 million!

Deis: {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
Chen: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}

It was a brutal set-over-set situation, and unfortunately for Chen he was on the wrong end of it. The other players and spectators were in disbelief, and everyone watched quietly as the {q-Hearts} was put out on the turn followed by the {K-Spades} on the river. Chen was left with just 230,000.

In the very next hand, Chen moved all in from the button with the {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds} only to run into the {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} of Jason Zarlenga in the big blind. Chen called for a seven, but it never came as the board ran out {4-Clubs}{j-Spades}{8-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Many of the spectators offered Chen their condolences and agreed that it was just bad luck.

Nick Perkins Eliminated in 5th Place ($22,639)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Nick Perkins - 5th Place
Nick Perkins - 5th Place

Nick Perkins began today as the chip leader with 65 players left. He managed to use that stack to navigate his way to the final table, but his journey has ultimately come to an end in fourth place.

In his final hand, Jason Zarlenga raised to 88,000 and Perkins opted to move all in from the big blind for roughly 500,000. Zarlenga snap-called.

Zarlenga: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Perkins: {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}

Perkins had some kicker issues, and they didn't get resolved on the {q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Perkins actually picked up a wheel draw, but Zarlenga picked up a flush draw. The {3-Hearts} turn put out some chop options, but the {J-Hearts} river failed to change anything.

John Michalak Eliminated in 6th Place ($18,866)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
John Michalak - 6th Place
John Michalak - 6th Place

John Michalak opened for 100,000 under the gun and then called a three-bet to 237,000 from Mark Johnson. The {k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop saw Michalak call a bet of 163,000, and then both players checked the {10-Diamonds} turn. When the {5-Clubs} completed the board on the river, Johnson moved all in and Michalak leaned back in his chair.

"Do you have nines?" he asked. "That's what I put you on."

About 20 seconds later Michalak called off his last 450,000 with the {j-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. It was the wrong call as Johnson had flopped Broadway with the {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}.

"I didn't believe you," Michalak said before making his way to the payout desk in sixth place to collect $18,866.

Perkins vs. Chen

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

JC Chen just limped the button and then called when Nick Perkins moved all in for 305,000 total in the small blind.

Chen: {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Perkins: {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Perkins was ahead, but Chen was drawing to two live cards. Fortunately for Perkins, the board ran out {a-Spades}{9-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and he was able to extend his tournament life.

Dustin Hargis Eliminated in 7th Place ($15,092)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Dustin Hargis - 7th Place
Dustin Hargis - 7th Place

Not long after being crippled by Mike Deis, Dustin Hargis moved all in for 114,000 from the button and Deis and JC Chen called from the small and big blind respectively. Both active players then checked it down as the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

Deis tabled the {5-Spades}{k-Spades} for a pair of five, which would have been good against Hargis' {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. However, Chen actually won the pot with the {q-Spades}{9-Spades} for a rivered pair of queens. Hargis will take home $15,092 for his seventh-place finish.

A Set-Up Hand for the Ages

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Mike Deis opened for 80,000 under the gun and cleared the field all the way around to Dustin Hargis, who moved all in from the big blind. Deis snap-called off for 700,000 total and the cards were turned up.

Hargis: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Deis: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Both players held big hands, but of course Deis was the monster favorite. The {q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop delivered Deis top set, which mean Hargis' only hope of winning the hand was to catch a jack. The dealer then burned and turned, you guess it, the {J-Spades}.

The table reacted in disbelief with JC Chen even giving a consolation pat on the back to Deis. It was premature though, as Deis could survive if the board paired on the river, which it did when the {J-Clubs} peeled off.

Again, the table was in disbelief, while Hargis was shell shocked and crippled.
