Romer Shoots One Dead

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

"Wild Bill" Romer opened for 3,600 only to have the player in the small blind three-bet shove all in for roughly 42,000. Romer made a quick call and was behind.

Romer: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Small Blind: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop paired both, but Romer's queens gave him the lead. The {A-Hearts} turn gave the small blind two pair, but at the same time it improved Romer to a Broadway straight. The small blind needed the board to pair either an ace or ten to stay alive, but it wasn't in the cards as the useless {3-Clubs} blanked.

Here Comes Michalak

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
John Michalak
John Michalak

John Michalak has built himself quite a stack. We were eyeing it up when we happened to catch him in a pretty big pot.

With around 75,000 in the middle and a board reading {5-Spades}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, Michalak checked and his opponent did the same. When the {4-Hearts} completed the board on the river, Michalak bet a healthy 30,000, and his opponent didn't seem too excited.

"Well, I guess I'll pay you off," he said before guessing Michalak had rivered a flush. That wasn't the case though as Michalak had a better hand with the {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. The full house of Michalak was good as his opponent shook his head and mucked.

"Wild Bill" is on Fire

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
"Wild Bill" Romer
"Wild Bill" Romer

"Wild Bill" Romer, a fan favorite on the MSPT, has been on fire the last couple levels. When he returned from the last break, he had around 80,000. Now he has 245,500!

In a recent hand, a preflop raising war saw a player get his stack of 40,000 or so all in against Romer, who happened to hold ladies.

Romer: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Opponent: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop put a sweat out there, but both the {8-Spades} turn and {2-Hearts} river blanked to give Romer the juicy pot.

Vang Vanquished by Deis

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Kou Vang
Kou Vang

Kou Vang won't be adding any more MSPT Player of the Year points here at FireKeepers Casino as he was just eliminated by Mike Deis.

It happened when an under-the-gun player opened for 2,500 and Vang shoved all in for around 23,000 from the hijack. Mike Deis then moved all in over the top for 35,000 or so from the cutoff, which cleared out the field.

Deis: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}
Vang: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

It was a cooler for Vang, and he wouldn't get lucky as the board ran out jack high. Vang, who traveled all the way from Minnesota just to play Day 1c, will leave the Wolverine State empty handed.

Steele Won't Be Making His Third FireKeepers Final Table

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

"Well, I'm out," reigning MSPT Player of the Year Patrick Steele said as he walked by our desk. He then explained that he moved all in from the cutoff after the hijack had opened. The button moved all in over the top, the hijack folded, and the cards were turned up.

Steele: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Button: {9-}{9-}

It was a race, but Steele was unable to catch. The first two times the MSPT came to FireKeepers, Steele finished fourth-place both times. However, the third time will not prove to be the charm as the man from Chelsea has hi the rail.

Meanwhile, Russell Harriman has also been eliminated from the tournament.

Vang Doubles

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

After the under-the-gun player opened with a standard raise, Kou Vang moved all in from the small blind for 11,300. His opponent called and it was off to the races.

Vang: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Opponent: {a-}{9-}

The board ran out a clean {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Vang was shipped the double.
