Deis Dominates Fornatto

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Mike Deis is cruising late on Day 1a.
Mike Deis is cruising late on Day 1a.

Mike Deis opened to 4,000 under the gun, and Dan Fornatto made it 12,000 in middle position. Everyone else folded back to Deis.

"How much do you have behind?" he said. "About 30? I'm all in."

Fornatto called, but his {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} was dominated by {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}. The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{a-Spades}, and Deis dragged the pot, eliminating Fornatto.

Mustafa Over 150,000

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mike Mustafa
Mike Mustafa

Mike Mustafa snap-called the all-in shove of a player on his right on a board of {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. the shove was only for a small fraction of the already-bloated pot.

Mustafa: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Mustafa was way ahead with his flush, and the {2-Hearts} kept it that way.

Players are now on a 10-minute break.

Deis Back on Top

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mike Deis bet 22,000 from the button after Bryan Schultz checked to him on a board of {q-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs}. Schultz sighed and swore softly before tossing out a call after a minute or so of thought.

"Ace-ten," Deis said, flipping {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} for a flopped Broadway straight. Schultz sent his cards skidding sideways across the felt.

"I Have the... Horriblest Hand"

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Bryan Schultz
Bryan Schultz

We found Bryan Schultz shoving all in over a bet of 25,000 from an opponent on a {6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop. A couple of the players started chuckling when Schultz's opponent didn't snap-call, since the bet appeared to be only a few thousand more.

"I am so bad," Schultz's opponent said. "I should not even be here. I have...the horriblest hand. I'm calling."

Schultz: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Opponent: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}

Schultz got some more outs to fade as the {4-Diamonds} gave his opponent a straight draw. The {q-Clubs} river was safe, though.

Schultz is an Illinois resident with more than $270,000 in live cashes.

Chow Folds to Meyers' Final Barrel

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Brandon Meyers opened for 3,000 in middle position and was called by both Bob Chow (button) and the big blind. Meyers bet 4,500 on the {5-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop, and only Chow continued. Chow called another 9,500 on the {4-Clubs} turn, and Meyers' fired 13,000 on the {2-Clubs} river. This time, Chow let his hand go.

Brian Zimcosky is on his way to another good run at MSPT Majestic Star.
Brian Zimcosky is on his way to another good run at MSPT Majestic Star.

Small blind Brian Zimcosky check-called 3,800 from Mike Sabbia in the cutoff on a {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop. Zimcosky check-called another 6,600 on the {a-Clubs} turn, and a {6-Clubs} fell on the river. Zimcosky checked again, and this time Sabbia fired a heap: 20,000. Zimcosky called relatively quickly.

"Nice call," Sabbia said. "Missed a flush draw."

Zimcosky tabled {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and took the pot.

Zimcosky finished third in this event for about $28,000 in March.

Gutfreund Gets "Gross" Elimination

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
David Gutfreund got caught raising light.
David Gutfreund got caught raising light.

David Gutfreund had 4,600 in front of him in middle position, and the small blind was all in for 11,000 when we arrived at the table. Gutfreund leaned forward, softly counting the pot before tossing in a call.

Gutfreund: {5-Spades}{3-Spades}
Small blind: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The flop was {10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, safe enough for the small blind. A {7-Spades} turn gave Gutfreund a flush draw. The dealer peeled off the {k-Spades}, giving the small blind the nut straight but Gutfreund a winning flush.

"Gross," the small blind muttered as he got up.

"Good luck getting a raise in for the next few orbits," Gutfreund said to himself.
