Day 1b Started
After a record field filled the room on Day 1a of Mid-States Poker Tour Meskwaki Casino, we're set to fire up Day 1b with an eye towards possibly hitting 400 entrants, which would top the guaranteed prize pool by a cool $100,000. Meskwaki has been one of the most consistent stops on the tour, with six events in the past two years before this one, and things seem to be rolling along nicely again.
Cards will be in the air at 4 p.m. local time here in Tama, Iowa, and players will grind their way through 14 levels today if they make Day 2. Blinds will begin at 50/100, and levels will last 40 minutes. Each player starts with 20,000, and they'll be aiming for some lofty totals set by players such as Matt Kirby (345,500) and Ryan Tepen (304,000).
Some notable names showed up yesterday but failed to bag stacks, and we hope to see them back today. Among that crowd: sponsored pro Blake Bohn, online crusher James "mig.com" Mackey, three-time MSPT 2014 final tablist Kou Vang, and $3.5 million man Blair Hinkle. We hope you stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you all of the updates throughout the day.

After running through the rules of the poker room quickly on the microphone, the tournament director gave the order to shuffle up and deal.
A slew of familiar faces have returned from yesterday and past Mid-States Poker Tour events.

We found Barry Reuther betting 5,000 on the river with the board reading . His opponent, who had checked, raised to 15,000, and Reuther snap-called.
The raiser confidently flipped for a set, but it was no good against Reuther's .

According to the players at Table 12, Aaron Johnson just busted two players when he flopped a set kings and managed to get all in against a player with a set of sixes and another player who had the nut flush draw. Johnson's hand held, and he has a very nice early stack two weeks after cashing in Mid-States Poker Tour Ho-Chunk.

We found Mark Sandness agonizing over an all-in shove from Matt Morfitt on a board.
"Well, it is the rebuy period," he said as he stood up before dropping his stack into the middle.
Morfitt tabled for a turned boat, and Sandness smacked his cards together disgustedly before showing , meaning the card that gave Morfitt his full house also gave Sandness a straight. He headed off, presumably to the registration desk.

Cash Carpenter opened for 375 and got one caller, and James Mackey made it 1,050. Carpenter folded when action got back to him, and the caller came along.
Mackey bet 1,025 on the flop, and his opponent made the call. An hit the turn, and the player fired out 1,025, which Mackey called. Action went the same on the river, and the first player showed for a turned top pair. Mackey flipped face up before mucking.
