Iannello Gets Some Back from Sun

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

John Sun opened for 45,000 from the cutoff only to have Joe Iannello three-bet all in for 456,000 from the small blind. The big folded, Sun asked for an exact count, and then spiked in some chips to make the call.

Iannello: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Sun: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

"Put an ace out there," Iannello requested. The dealer obliged and put out the {4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} on the flop. Neither the {Q-Hearts} turn nor {5-Diamonds} river changed a thing, and Sun sent some chips over to Iannello.

Ken Daciolas Eliminated in 16th Place ($3,715)

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Ken Daciolas - 16th Place
Ken Daciolas - 16th Place

Ken Daciolas shoved his short stack of 158,000 from middle position and action folded all the way around to Paul Mattioda, who called from the big blind.

Daciolas: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Mattioda: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}

Daciolas was well out in front, but the {q-}{q-Spades}{5-Spades} flop made things interesting. Daciolas flopped trips, but Mattioda picked up a flush draw. A spade on the turn gave Mattioda the said flush, and that meant Daciolas needed to boat up to stay alive. That didn't happen thought as a red ace bricked on the river.

Mike Deis Eliminated in 17th Place ($3,715)

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Mike Deis - 17th Place
Mike Deis - 17th Place

John Sun opened with a raise and Joe Iannello called from the cutoff. Mike Deis then three-bet jammed for 260,000 from the big blind, Sun moved all in over the top, and Iannello wisely got out of the way.

Deis: {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Sun: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Deis had picked the wrong spot to shove, but he got a little help on the {j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop. He needed some more help to score the double, but it didn't happen as the {2-Hearts} blanked on the turn followed by the {5-Spades} on the river.

Deis was eliminated in 17th place, and while he is no doubt disappointed, he may find some solace in the fact that he has now overtaken Kou Vang atop the MSPT Season 5 Player of the Year leaderboard.

Huge Pot Sent to Sun

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

John Sun opened for 40,000 from the hijack and Joe Iannello called from the button. The blinds both folded, and it was heads-up action to the {2-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop. Sun continued for 75,000, Iannello called, and the {10-Diamonds} appeared on the turn.

Sun bet again, this time 200,000, but he couldn't shake Iannello. When the {J-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, Sun wasted little time in betting 300,000, which Iannello called.

"Straight," Sun said and tabled the {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for a rivered straight. It was good as Iannello showed he had been ahead with the {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

Greg Baird Eliminated in 18th Place ($3,715)

Adam Lamphere opened for 35,000 from the cutoff only to have Gary Tsui three-bet jam for 120,000 from the button. An extremely short-stacked Greg Baird then called off for 43,000 from the big blind, and Lamphere called to put both players at risk.

Baird: {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Lamphere: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Tsui: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Lamphere was looking to hit one of his two overs to score the elimination, but that didn't happen as the board ran out {q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}. The tens of Tsui held, and he more than doubled while Baird made his way to the payout desk in 18th.

Howard Hankin

Howard Hankin got his short stack all in and found himself in a bad spot against MSPT FireKeepers champ Jason Zarlenga.

Hankin: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Zarlenga: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Zarlenga was well out in front with his ace-queen, and that's just where he stayed as the board ran out a clean {4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Hankin was eliminated in 19th place and will take home $2,916 for his performance.

Suren Dharanikota
Suren Dharanikota

Suren Dharanikota shoved his stack all in on a flop of {10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}, and he couldn't have picked a worse spot as Joe Iannello snap-called him with the {10-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}. Dharanikota had shoved with the {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, and he was eliminated from the tournament in 20th place after the turn and river came the {8-Clubs} and {10-Clubs} respectively.

Two Massive Doubles

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

We just saw two hands take place simultaneously at each tables, and both resulted in massive doubles.

We missed the details in the first, but we do know John Sun got his stack all in on a board reading {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{5-Spades} against Suren Dharanikota. The latter held the {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for two pair, but it was second best to the former's {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} two pair. Sun clapped his hands together in celebration as he doubled to 1.3 million.

Meanwhile, over at the other table, Adam Lamphere opened for 28,000 from the hijack and was met by a three-bet to 45,000 from Greg Baird in the small blind. The big folded, Lamphere four-bet to 85,000, and Baird announced that he was all in. Lamphere called off for 513,000 total and discovered he'd been coolered.

Lamphere: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Baird: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}

Lamphere stood to take his leave, but then he hit his miracle card as the dealer burned and turned the {K-Clubs}. The {Q-Spades} river failed to help Baird, and he sent a good portion of his chips across the table.
