Massey & Lowery Disappear

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

We missed the second Day 1c elimination of Aaron Massey, but we do know shortly before he was crippled after flopping two pair against an opponent holding pocket kings. Unfortunately, a king appeared on the river and Massey saw the vast majority of his chips disappear. He was felted a short time later.

Meanwhile, Duma Lowery has also been eliminated from the tournament. Both players, as well as those eliminated on Day 1c, have the option of reentering an unlimited amount of times until the expiration of Level 16. Whether or not they do remains to be seen.

The Chainsaw Looks to Cut Down the Competition

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

It's not often we catch a hand with the famed Allen Kessler, so whenever we see him in action we do our best to jot it down.

Most recently, there was 6,050 in the pot when a player in early position checked and Kessler bet 2,500 from middle position. His opponent thought for a bit before check-raising to 5,400, and Kessler snap-called.

Not much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on the "Chainsaw's" chip count.

Mader Eliminated from MSPT Golden Gates Main Event for Final Time

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Phil Mader
Phil Mader

Nebraska farmer Phil Mader fired several bullets into this tournament, but his last one came up short.

It happened when a player opened for 1,200 and picked up two callers. Robert Schneegas then three-bet to 3,600 from the cutoff, Mader four-bet jammed for 12,400 from the big blind, and the original raiser and limpers all folded. Schneegas didn't seem excited about it, but made the call nonetheless.

Schneegas: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}
Mader: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The {a-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop paired Mader, but it also gave Schneegas a flush draw. The {7-Clubs} turn was safe for Mader, but the {6-Spades} river wasn't as Schneegas spiked his flush.

Mader confirmed that he would not be reentering.

High Five to Jim Morrison

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

We happened upon the action on the turn with a board reading {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. An unknown player got his stack of around 25,000 all in and Jim Morrison, who didn't have much more than that, opted to call.

Morrison: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Opponent: [kxkxk]

Morrison was way behind, but he spiked his card when the {5-Diamonds} peeled off on the river to give him a straight.

"Get the f*** out of here," the eliminated player said under his breath. On the flip side, Morrison was all smiles being pushed the pot.

Lowery Folds to Palmer's Shove

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

In one of the last hands of the level, Duma Lowery opened with a raise from the hijack only to have Kevin Palmer three-bet to 2,200 from the button. Both blinds folded, Lowery pushed back with a four-bet to 5,025, and Palmer thought long and hard before moving all in.

Lowery, who was the shorter stack with 15,700 behind, gave it some thought, but ultimately released his hand.

McCray Cracks Aces to Send Fielder to the Rail

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Jeff Fielder opened under the gun for 700 only to have Jonathan McCray, who finished runner-up in the MSPT Golden Gates Casino for $63,420 back in Season 5, three-bet to 2,300. The player in Seat 1 flatted, Fielder shipped for roughly 15,000, and McCray called. The other player then folded {j-}{j-} face up.

Fielder: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}
McCray: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Fielder was in a dominating spot, but not after the flop came down {6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} to give McCray a set. Fielder could still win with a diamond, but the {8-Hearts} turn wasn't it. While the {8-Diamonds} river was a diamond, it was the only one he didn't want to see as it improved McCray to a full house.

"Yuck," was all Fielder had to say as he made his way to the exit. That said, it does appear he will be reentering.

Sandt Looks to Be the First Up to 100K

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Shawn Sandt
Shawn Sandt

After the under-the-gun player limped, Jose Serratos raised to 2,000 from middle position. Shawn Sandt called from the button, the player in the small blind came along, and the limper got out of the way to make it three-way action to the {j-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop, which all three players checked.

When the {3-Spades} appeared on the turn, two checks prompted Sandt to bet 3,000. The small blind called, Serratos folded, and the {A-Clubs} completed the board on the river. The player in the small blind check-called another bet, this time 4,000, only to fold when Sandt rolled over the {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for trips.

Gutfreund Doesn't Back Down

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

After a player in early position raised to 650, David Gutfreund, who won the HPT Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Main Event for $156,649 one year ago, called from the cutoff. The player in the big blind came along, and three players took a flop of {3-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

The big blind checked, the original raiser continued for 1,250, and Gutfreund called. After the big blind folded, the {5-Hearts} appeared on the turn and the early-position player fired out 3,200, which Gutfreund also called. Both players then checked the {9-Clubs} river and the early-position player sheepishly showed the {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a pair of fives. Gutfreund then rolled over the {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} to claim the pot.
