Day 1c Started
Two Day 1 flights are in the books, and Mid-States Poker Tour Maryland Live! is ready to kick off its last heat at 11:15 local time here just outside of Baltimore.
A total of 28 players have punched tickets to Day 2, with World Series of Poker bracelet winner Adam Friedman leading the way by bagging 285,600 after approximately 12 levels on Day 1b. Others joining Friedman from Day 1b last night included Justin Liberto (176,400), MSPT team pro Matt Alexander (145,600), Nick Bond (127,700), Avon Wilson (118,200), Billy Jacobini (113,100), Joe Cashen (100,900), and Brian Zekus (33,400). The flight drew 78 players total.
Once again, the game plan is to play 14 40-minute levels, and each player will begin with 20,000 in chips. Players will get 10-minute breaks every three levels, and each player is allowed one reentry should they bust. Stay tuned to see who bags up on this final flight.

There's at least one fresh face in the room today, though he's a familiar sight to players on the Mid-States Poker Tour: David Gutfreund. The Chicago native, who can often be seen clad in a hockey jersey, has racked up more than his share of cashes in tournament poker, totaling over $550,000. He recently won an HPT event for more than $156,000 for his biggest cash.

A massive pot just developed at Table 31, beginning with a middle-position raise and a call from cutoff Michael Truman. The small blind three-bet to 1,250, and both of his opponents called. The flop came , and the first player bet 2,750. The opener, Robert Emmert, announced a raise, paused for a bit, then tossed in 7,000. Truman announced a call, and the bettor called as well. On the turn, the first player checked and Emmert moved in for 8,200. Truman called, giving the preflop aggressor pause.
"I probably need one more diamond," he muttered, mucking.
Truman:
Emmert:
"Your queens are dead," the small blind said, indicating he had folded the other two queens and the hand was over

Big three-handed pots seem to be the norm at Table 31.
Three players put in 1,500 on a flop, and the small blind fired 2,300 on the turn. A player in middle position called, and Darren Bracken made it 5,400 on the button. That was a relatively small raise relative to the pot, but it got plenty of respect as both of his opponents folded, giving him the pot.

Things went bonkers preflop at Table 41, starting with a Nick Pupillo early-position open to 400. Owen Seivright on his left made it 1,050, and Robert Gray turned it up further to 2,950 in the cutoff. The small blind cold-called, Pupillo moved in for about 16,000, and Seivright jammed as well for over 22,000, covering everyone. Gray called it off for 21,200, and the small blind folded.

Day 1c is shaping up nicely and looks to be by far the biggest of the Day 1 flight, as two more tables have been added and the field nears 80 players. One new table, Table 42, houses a couple of familiar faces. Stan Jablonski has more than $1 million in live cashes. He's seated in Seat 2 and looks for a more successful day after firing two bullets and bricking Day 1b. He'll have to contend with Eddie Bryant, who has a modest $50,000 in cashes of his own, including a run at Mid-States Poker Tour Running Aces last year that saw him get 30th place.
