Once the poster child for World Series of Poker heartbreak, Ohio's Adam Friedman is enjoying a good start to things here in Iowa.

Friedman was seen calling one player's desperation 2,175-chip shove on a {j-Spades}{4-Spades}{10-Hearts} board with just the {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. His opponent held the {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and busted after the {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} turn and river left him with just ace-high.

A hand later he stomped all over a 450-chip open, three-betting to 1,400. The original raiser called, but check-folded to a 1,200-chip continuation bet on a {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop, allowing Friedman to push up above a starting stack.
