The 2015 Mid-States Poker Tour Meskwaki Main Event continues at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel in Tama, Iowa today with the second of two starting flights.
The first drew 191 entries to for the $300,000 Guaranteed event and an even bigger field is expected this afternoon.
The last time the tour stopped here in July, the Main Event drew 410 entries, creating a total prize pool of $396,200 with MSPT Pro Blake Bohn dominating on the way to a $101,229 win and his second MSPT title. Due to prior commitments in sunnier locales, Bohn is not expected to turn up to defend the crown.
The Allen Kessler designed "Chainsaw Approved" structure will see players begin with 20,000-chip stacks and attempt to survive and thrive through 14 action-packed 40-minute levels with a break after every three.
The MSPT Main Event is a two-day structure with the play down to a champion set for Sunday.
Through 14 levels of play on Day 1a just 37 survived with Calmar, Iowa's Marty Faldet bagging the chip lead on 317,000.
Players can re-enter once per starting flight and the registration and re-entry period is open through the first nine levels.

MSPT POY Battle Heats Up
Mark Hodge came to Iowa to play a little poker.
"I came to play a lot of poker," he said. "My plan is to play all 14 levels both days."
So far that plan is working, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Hodge played all 14 levels on Day 1a only to bust late in the last level of the night.
"I ran out of steam," he said. "Hopefully I can keep it going today."
Should he do so, run deep and cash, Hodge, who currently sits fifth in the MSPT Player of the Year race, would pick up some valuable points on leader Blake Bohn, who skipped this event due to other commitments.
Hodge currently holds 2,640 points to Bohn's 3,000.
There are also a few players in between in what appears to be a tight race that is likely to come right down to the wire.

All players who cash in an MSPT Main Event earn POY points and at the end of the calendar year, the top-ranked player will win a $1,100 Main Event seat to the Mid-Season Championship at The Venetian in Las Vegas, $400 cash toward airfare, $250 towards every MSPT event next season and a $5,000 Custom Home Audio package from Holm Audio.

With Potential
Chicago, Illinois' Lenard Adams has taken the Level 1 chip lead after busting a player at his table.
"I want the world to know, I got it in bad, but with potential," he said.
The situation was this: Adams called a 300 chip preflop bet with 
. The flop came 
and when his opponent led for 600, Lenard bumped it to 1,400. His opponent pushed in and Adams called it off with middle pair.
The get it in bad part surrounded the fact Adams' oppenent held 
. The potential lie in the gut shot.
The pot and the Level 1 chip lead was pushed his way when the turn and river made Adams a full house.

Namazi Picks His Spots; Every One Of Them

It would be fair to say that Abbas Namazi has never seen a hand he doesn't like. That is to say, he plays a lot of them. Possibly all of them.
That strategy worked to perfection yesterday, until it didn't. Namazi built it up to 100,000 in the early levels, rarely finding a reason to fold. But by 10 p.m., it was all gone.
He's back at it today and his go-for-broke, any-two style was on display moments ago as he dipped to around 10,000, and just as quickly, rose back up over the starting stack of 20,000.
Highlights included a three-hand spurt where he was seen shoving on a 
flop in a raised pot three ways, picking off one foe who shoved 
on an 
board with the 
, then check-calling two streets before firing away on the river of a 
board to take a third pot down.

The Old Fashioned Way

2014 MSPT Baraboo sixth-place finisher Jun Kim found a double up the old fashioned way; He earned it.
The Chicago, Illinois resident told PokerNews he's grinded his way up to twice the starting stack already without benefit of any big all-in confrontations, chipping up steadily through the first two levels of the day and into the third.
