Phan Coolers Ross

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
"East Coast" Mike Ross
"East Coast" Mike Ross

Mike Ross bet 5,000 from middle position on a {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop and was called by the player on the button and Paula Phan in the blinds. On the {4-Spades} turn, Ross fired 12,000, and the player on the button quickly folded. Phan cut out a raise, and Ross announced all in and was snap-called.

Ross: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}
Phan: {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

Ross was disgusted with the cooler, and the river {4-Diamonds} mean Phan doubled up with the better boat.

"I knew you had a huge hand," Ross said. "Your boyfriend couldn't stop staring at me, rocking his leg with excitement..."

Players are on a 10-minute break.

Fielder Ousts Stevermer

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Dennis Stevermer
Dennis Stevermer

Dennis Stevermer survived twice with chops today when he was absolutely crushed, but he was living on borrowed time as he just busted all in preflop with {k-}{9-} against the {k-}{j-} of Jeff Fielder, who took Stevermer's last 10,000 or so when he turned a jack to seal the deal.

Stevermer got second last time the Mid-States Poker Tour was in town, but he'll have to run it up tomorrow on Day 1b if he wants a chance to repeat the feat.

Barnard Busts Schneider

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mike Schneider
Mike Schneider

Mike Schneider opened to 3,200 on the button and then shove all in for what looked like around 40,000 when Joe Barnard three-bet to 9,000 from the blinds. Barnard called immediately and flipped {k-}{k-}, dominating Schneider's {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Neither player improved on the community, leaving Barnard's kings best and eliminating the limit hold'em legend from Day 1a play.

Schneider Doubles Through Liu

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Mike Schneider opened to 2,400 under the gun and was called by Adam Dahlin in middle position. Peixin Liu moved all in for about 50,000 from the cutoff, and Schneider stacked his chips in one tower and put them in. Dahlin folded.

Schneider: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Liu: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

"Nice hand," Liu said after the first four cards came {8-Spades}{a-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}. The {k-Diamonds} river meant Liu had to send about half of his stack across the table.

Straight Flush for Melander

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Todd Melander check-called out of the big blind when an opponent in middle position bet 3,500 on a {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop. Both players checked the {3-Spades} turn, and Melander bet about 11,000 on the {10-Hearts} river. His opponent snap-folded, leaving Melander to curse as he showed {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

Liu Doubles Through Friedman; Ross Loses a Pile

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Adam Friedman opened to 2,600 in the hijack and was called by Ben Marsh on his left. Peixin Liu shipped for 25,900 from the button, and Friedman shoved as well when action folded back to him, chasing Marsh out.

Liu: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Friedman: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Liu found a friendly board as {4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades} hit the felt, and he doubled through the bracelet winner.

At another table, Mike Ross lost 35,000 when he put a shorter-stacked player at risk with {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} but was unable to find a third queen against {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.
