$201,529 Up for Grabs on Day 2 of the MSPT Venetian $1,100 Main Event

Brian Heeb
Brian Heeb

Day 2 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Venetian $1,100 Main Event is set to resume Sunday at 11 a.m. local time with 146 players returning from an initial 1,123 entries to compete for their share of the $1,089,310 total prize pool. That figure more than quintupled the guaranteed prize pool of $200,000, a number that will also be surpassed by the first-place prize of $201,529 sitting up top for the soon-to-be-named champion.

All who return will have more than a full day's worth of poker ahead of them should they wish to be the last player standing, though Day 1b chip leader Brian Heeb (786,500) and Day 1a chip leader Alan Findlay (612,500) find themselves entering Day 2 with a sizeable leg up on the rest of the field.

Plenty of competition remains below the pair, however, with players such as Benjamin Craig (425,500), Siddharth Siddharth (412,500), Frank Funaro (380,000), Landon Tice (311,500), and Derek McMaster (301,000) all coming into the day with well above-average stacks.

Other notables looking to make Day 2 runs include John Sun (158,500), Ryan Hughes (141,000), Keith Heine (119,000), Mike Shin (112,500), and Nick Pupillo (108,000).

Of the 146 returning, 128 will make it into the money, meaning 18 eliminations need to occur before the bubble bursts. With play resuming at the start of Level 16 (2,500/5,000/5,000), that feat should be accomplished within the first two hours of play. Like Day 1, all levels will last 40 minutes and breaks will occur at the completion of every three levels, and big-blind ante will remain in effect through the duration of the tournament.

PokerNews will be bringing you updates from the floor until victory has been claimed, so make sure to stick around.

Play Underway

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Play is officially underway on Day 2 with 145 players in contention due to a duplicate bag found of Steven Stone's being removed in the best-stack-forward format. Seventeen eliminations are needed for play to reach the money.

Poland Loses an Early Coin Flip

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Hewitt Poland went all in for 46,500 in middle position and action folded around to the Marc Bernal, who was in the big blind and called.

Hewitt Poland: {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Marc Bernal: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

Poland found no help as the runout quickly came {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{q-Clubs}, leaving him dry on chips after finishing with the second-best hand.

Hand-For-Hand Play Begins

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Nirath Rean
Nirath Rean

The tournament director has just announced for all tables to stop play at the completion of their current hand, signaling the beginning of hand-for-hand play as the tournament has now reached the bubble with 129 players remaining.

A double-elimination on Table 24 of Spencer Wright and Phillip Chin caused the announcement, as both players got all in with ace-queen preflop against the pocket jacks of Nirath Rean, who said the runout came {9-}{4-}{4-}{3-}{6-}. He now has 244,000 and is off to a fast start on the day.

The Bubble Bursts

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

With the tournament clock being paused for the past few minutes and no further hands being played since the announcement of hand-for-hand play, another announcement was just made that they would be breaking Table 7 as Joseph Maas was eliminated on that very table to result in the tournament officially reaching the money with 128 players remaining.
