Swadeep Mishra 2020 MSPT Grand Falls Regional Champion

The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Grand Falls Casino comes to its conclusion as the final day of the $360 buy-in, $50K GTD Regional Event gets underway at noon.

The three starting flights pulled together a staggering 794 total entries, which was enough to blast by the $50,000 guarantee with $231,054 being the closed prize pool. A total of 113 players found a bag during the three starting flights and those lucky enough to do so will be returning for Day 2 action.

Starting the day with the overall chip lead is Abraham Garang who bagged large in Day 1a and he will look to add his first MSPT title to his poker resume.

Many other familiar faces will be battling it out for a shot at the top prize which includes Terence Reid (286,000), defending champ Swadeep Mishra (278,000), Daryl Oppelt (278,000), Paul Johnson (258,000), Matt Alexander (165,000) and Cy Church (137,000).

There will be 113 players returning for Day 2 action but only 81 spots will be grabbing a piece of the prize pool. Starting the day fairly close to the money might make for some conservative play, but judging by the first three flights the tournament should retain the action-filled play that has been up to this point.

A min-cash will be paying $644, but all eyes will be on the $46,020 first-place prize that the eventual champion will be taking home, along with an MSPT title.

Nguyen Gets Early Double

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Kevin Nguyen
Kevin Nguyen

Steve Webb opened for 18,000 from early position, Dennis Wood called from the next seat over and Kevin Nguyen three-bet all in for 71,000 from the big blind.

Action was back on Webb who tossed his hand into the muck while Wood called and the two players tabled their hands.

Dennis Wood: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Kevin Nguyen: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

It was a classic race with Nguyen looking to stay ahead and he did as the {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} runout secured his double-up.

Bubble Burst; Cross Finishes in the Money

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Paul Cross
Paul Cross

A flurry of eliminations happened as play was about to start the hand-for-hand process and we thought Paul Cross was the bubble boy after he lost {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} against Don Reinholdt who held {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}, but another player was eliminated by Daryl Oppelt at the same time holding only 13,000 so Cross finished in 81st place for $644.

Devericks Scores Double Elimination With Cowboys

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Trevis Devericks
Trevis Devericks

Tyler Lankford opened for 28,000 from under the gun, Trevis Devericks three-bet to 44,000 from middle position and Tara Nuss four-bet all in for 69,000 on the button.

Action folded back around to Lankford who came over the top for roughly 220,000 and Devericks called having both players covered.

Tara Nuss: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Tyler Lankford: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Trevis Devericks: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Each player held a made hand but it was Devericks holding the best one and nothing changed after the {6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} runout as he sent both players to the payout desk.

Chirs Moen raised from the hijack and then called the three-bet jam Scott Konze made on the button.

Chris Moen: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Scott Konze: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Konze was in rough shape and nothing changed after the {10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop. The turn however, fell the {j-Hearts} giving Konze a little hope but the {a-Hearts} river ended his tournament in 16th place for $2,301.

Taylor Howard
Taylor Howard

Jason Lich opened for 150,000 and then called Taylor Howard's 600,000 three-bet jam from the next seat over.

Jason Lich: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Taylor Howard: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Howard held the best hand until the {9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop fell pairing Lich's seven. Howard found more outs after the {j-Spades} gave him a broadway draw but the river fell a brick {5-Diamonds} and ended his tournament in 14th place for $2,761.

Juston Welter

Juston Welter was all in after a {6-Spades}{k-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop from the button and was called by William Reynolds from the big blind.

Juston Welter: {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
William Reynolds: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Welter flopped top-pair but was trailing the pocket rockets Reynolds held and the {2-Hearts} turn left him drawing to a king.

Unfortunately for Welter, the {7-Hearts} completed the board on the river and ended his tournament.
