The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is back in beautiful Riverside, Iowa, and the much-anticipated Main Event action gets underway today.
Day 1a starts at 3 p.m. this afternoon. With a $300,000 guarantee, the two-day event is sure to attract a large field seeking championship glory and the largest piece of the healthy prize pool.
Last year's Iowa State Poker Championship saw 928 total entrants generate a prize pool of $898,660, far surpassing the guarantee. It was Timothy Gundrum, from Burr Ridge, Illinois who came out on top of that field to win $170,769. If recent trends continue, that number could grow even higher. The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) stop here in March had a record-breaking 1,094 entries.
As a reentry event with three starting flights, one each on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, players will have plenty of chances to find a bag for Day 2 action on Sunday. Players will start with 25,000 and enjoy 40-minute levels to allow for plenty of deep-stack play.
