Puccio Spins Over A Wheel

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Michael Puccio
Michael Puccio

Action was picked up on the turn with 1,900 in the center between Michael Puccio in the hijack and an opponent under the gun.

On a board reading {3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, the under the gun player bet 1,000 and Puccio called.

The river peeled off a {3-Spades} and the opponent bet once more, this time to the tune of 2,000 and Puccio responded by raising to 5,000, sending his opponent into the tank. After some time he folded and Puccio showed him {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a turned wheel as he raked in the pot.

Goepel Wins Despite Not Liking The River

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Dan Goepel
Dan Goepel

Action was picked up in a pot between Dan Goepel under the gun and CJ Peake in the big blind.

On a board of {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, Peake bet 3,000 and Goepel responded by raising to 8,000, which Peake called.

The river of {a-Diamonds} saw Peake check. "I did not like that river," Goepel laughed while pondering his option. After a little bit more thought he turned over {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} for fives full of kings. Peake moved his cards into the muck and the MSPT champion took down an early tournament pot.

Glass Sees The Lights

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Dennis Glass
Dennis Glass

Action was picked up on the turn between Dennis Glass on the button and an opponent in late position with a pot already brewing.

The board read {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and action checked to Glass who bet 2,200, and his opponent called.

The river {5-Spades} saw the late position player check once more and Glass sized up to 6,000 which his opponent quickly called.

Glass turned over {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for Broadway which was good against the {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds} of his opponent, and he took down an early pot.

Welcome to The Mid-States Poker Tour Main Event at Riverside

Craig Trost Wins Riverside Iowa Championship
Craig Trost Wins Riverside Iowa Championship

The Mid-States Poker Tour has returned to Riverside Casino and Golf Resort in Riverside, Iowa for the third time this year. The $1,100 Main Event, which boasts a guarantee of $300,000, will have the first of three flights of this tournament kicking off today at 3:00 p.m. local time. This is an unlimited re-entry tournament, so players will have the option to buy in as many times as they see fit. If a player bags but wishes to play another flight, they will need to forfeit their stack to play.

The players will sit down with 25,000 in starting chips with blinds at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante and levels going up every 40 minutes. After every three levels, there will be a 10-minute break. After Level 9 there will be a 40-minute dinner break, after which the players will come back, play an additional three levels until registration closes. After which, the players will play three more levels and then bag up for the day at the end of Level 15, or until 12% of the field remains, in which case there will be a hard stop.

Last time, it was Wisconsin native Craig Trost who outlasted a field of 979 to win his first Mid-States Poker Tour Main Event for a career best score of $180,145. Trost had to navigate a stacked final table that included the likes of Angela Jordison, CJ Peake, and John Dennehey. Trost is nearly certain to return to defend his title against a field that will no doubt be filled with crushers.

On top of Trost, other MSPT regulars expected to make appearances at this stop include, Sarah Stefan, Jamie Allen, Renato Spahiu, Michael Berk, Jason Crews, Wesley Cannon, as well as former champions Dan Sepiol and Timothy Gundrum.

The MSPT Player of The Year race has seen a shakeup that will no doubt raise eyebrows. Wisconsin’s Josh Reichard finished in third place last week at MSPT Deadwood, moving his name to the top of the leaderboard, above four-time champion Dan Bekavac(who is also an MSPT Riverside champion). Following them are CJ Peake, Miles Barnum, and John Dennehey. With a tight cluster at the top five, each one of these players could see a deep run in this event push them up to the top of the list. All of them are not only expected to appear, but be gunning full speed ahead for the title of MSPT Player of the Year, having only five events left before the end of the year.

Who will bag big? How will the MSPT Player of The Year Race shake out? Stay tuned to PokerNews for all updates regarding these questions.
