Welcome to Day 1b of the MSPT Sycuan $1,110 Main Event!

The second of three opening flights of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) Sycuan Showdown Series Main Event gets underway today at 3 pm PT, with another strong field expected to help grow the prize pool further toward its $300,000 guarantee.

In Thursday’s opening flight, nine of 79 entrants advanced to Day 2 on Sunday at 11 am, with Stephen Graner of Henderson, Nevada bagging the biggest stack of 368,000 chips.

As with Day 1a, the schedule calls for 15 40-minute levels, or a hard stop once 12% of the field is reached, which was the case Thursday, as play ended nearly a full hour early once the final nine were reached.

Players will begin the day with 25,000 chips at blinds of 100/100 with a 100 BB ante. 10-minute breaks are scheduled after every three levels with late registration open until the beginning of Level 13.

Also on the schedule for Friday is the $200 Ladies event powered by the Poker League of Nations at 4 pm local time. PLON founder Lena Evans was among those advancing yesterday to Day 2 of the Main Event, with a stack of 245,000 chips.

A $265 satellite to the Main Event is also on the docket for 7 pm local time, with one in five players advancing to an opening flight.

Friedman Finds a Better Spot

On the first hand after he folded to the wild three-way action in front of him, Adam Friedman got involved in a hand with Veronica Daly.

On the turn with several thousand in the pot already and the board reading , Daly led for 2,000 in early position and Friedman called. The river brought the , and Daly checked to Friedman, who checked back.

Daly showed for a missed flush draw that she's fortunate didn't come in as Friedman showed for a winning pair of queens and a better flush draw that likely would have earned him a much bigger pot.

Brush Sweeping Up Chips

Daryn Brush has established himself as one of the early big stacks in the room, and he recently added to his total.

In a three-way pot on the river with the board reading and a sizable pot already built, Zewdie Wondimagegnehu checked in early position to Brush who bet 12,000 from middle position. Rhodora Luck made the call in the big blind, and Wondimagegnehu was left to a decision.

Ultimately he decided to fold instead of committing over half of his remaining stack, and he was pleased with the outcome as Brush turned over for winning trip tens, while Luck showed for a rivered top pair.

"Me too", said Wondimagegnehu as Brush dragged the pot to push him toward 100,000 in chips.

Daly Crushing Table 18

Daryn Brush's stack at table 18 has been healthy and growing throughout the day, but a recent rush by tablemate Veronica Daly has seen her take over the position of Table Captain.

According to her tablemates, the carnage of this recent hand was just the latest in a string of bustouts at her hands.

With approximately 6,000 in the pot on a flop of , Daly checked in middle position to her opponent in the cutoff, who bet 2,000. Daly didn't hesitate before check-raising him all in for approximately 20,000 more.

After some deliberation, her opponent called and was on the verge of heading out the door (or to the registration desk for a re-entry)

TK in Trouble

Picking the action up on what turned into an action flop of , Victor Kulish bet 7,000 from the big blind, Kenneth Morey moved all in from middle position for approximately 18,000. TK called in late position, and Kulish then called to build a huge pot by the turn.

The turn brought the , and Kulish moved all in for about 25,000. TK called and the hands were tabled.

Kulish hit the king on the turn to grab the lead in the hand, but had to fade Morey's straight draw and TK's flush draw. He also needed to face an ace.

The river brought the , securing the huge pot for Kulish, while eliminating Morey and leaving TK with just 10,500.

Friedman Frustrated Then Felted

It was a rough day for Adam Friedman with a frustrating flurry of hands ending his day.

After raising an under the gun limp from Shun Wakita, Wakita moved all-in for roughly 20,000. Friedman chose to muck his hand and preserve his chips.

Shortly after, he thought he was in great shape when Ron Scott moved in against him, only to find his set of fives crushed by a set of queens.

The final blow came against Shane Truesdale who called Friedman's all-in three-bet on the turn with a flush draw against Friedman's top pair. Truesdale's flush came in on the river sending Friedman to the exit.

He'll have Saturday's final Day 1 flight to try again, however.

Kolman Gets Huge Double Courtesy of Jordan Jam

Sebastin Kolman has vaulted up near the chip lead after waking up with a monster at the perfect time.

After Matthew Simila opened to 4,000 and Chris Smith called, Jeff Jordan piled in his whole stack for 150,000 effective, the value of Sebastin Kolman's stack to his left.

TK on the Comeback Trail
