Steve Wendroff of San Diego, California is the chip leader at the end of Day 1c of the Mid-States Poker Tour(MSPT) $1,110 Main Event, part of the Showtime Series at San Diego’s Sycuan Casino Resort. The third and final flight attracted 206 runners, bringing the grand total for the tournament to 460 players, building a prize pool of $444,700, of which $100,680 will go to first place.

Wendroff is looking for his first MSPT Main Event cash after bagging 112 big blinds, in part thanks to a triple-up that helped him cross 200,000 in chips. The local poker player will return Sunday at 11 a.m. for the finale along with Day 1a chip leader Jason Hickey and overall leader Huy Nguyen, who bagged over 600,000 chips on Day 1b. Nguyen leads a field of 61 players returning to take their shot at the title on Sunday.

Day 1c Action

Several players made a bid at chip leader in the closing levels of the night, including Lena Evans, who finished just outside the top ten players at the end of the night. Evans was briefly the leader at the end of the night after eliminating Ken Deberry with pocket tens.

Jeremy Clemons had several highlights on his path to the leaderboard, including the elimination of Hung Tran with big slick and a cooler against Jason Singleton. Maxwell Lineberger cracked Michael Rosado’s kings with suited connectors but failed to qualify for Day 2.

Thomas Hammers tripled up late in the evening when his ace-jack held on to beat two opponents for the pot, but the Minnesota-native was unable to make the second and final leg of the tournament. Other highlights include a straight flush over straight flush and a big early pot for Jentzen Mehl. Other players who came up short on Day 1c include Matt Kirby, Johnnie Moreno, and Benjamin Moon.

Day 2 will kick off tomorrow at 11 p.m. PST. Play will begin with 10:00 remaining in Level 14 and blinds will continue to increase every 40 minutes. The top 48 finishers will take home a min-cash of $2,131.

Christopher Black came armed with an extra incentive for anyone who called his 25,000 shove from the button.

Black placed five T-5,000 chips on top of a Payday candy bar and pushed both into the middle.

However, the treat consisting of peanuts rolled over a nougat-like sweet caramel center was not enough, and Black couldn't find a caller.
