Quads Sends Marcus Sailing Up the Chip Counts

Level 7 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Hal Marcus
Hal Marcus

On a flop of {q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and about 13,000 already in the middle, Hal Marcus shoved for 66,000 over a bet of 11,000 from his opponent.

His opponent counted out his stack before calling to put Marcus at risk.

Hal Marcus: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Marcus was in dominating position with his set of nines and the {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} runout only improved him to quad nines. He becomes one of the chip leaders as we near the halfway point of the day.

Ken Baime

"Where's PokerNews," asked Ken Baime.

Across the room, Baime was holding up four sevens to celebrate him making quads.

Baime recounted that in a blind-on-blind situation, he had gotten all in the money in preflop with Kyna England.

England held pocket fours while Baime had pocket sevens.

Baime hit a set on the flop and drilled the last seven in the deck on the river to eliminate England with quads. He shoots up the leaderboard heading into the next break.

MSPT Sycuan
MSPT Sycuan

Welcome to Day 1a of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) $1,110 Main Event from Sycuan Casino in San Diego. The United States Poker Championship boasts a $300,000 guaranteed tournament that also awards a trophy on top of the money won.

Players can earn their way into the Main Event with multiple $265 buy-in satellites available, where 1 in 5 players advance.

When the tour swung by in May, Sebastin Kolman took home the trophy and the $80,170 first prize to go along with it. He outlasted a field of 473 entries that smashed the $300,000 guaranteed prize pool.

There will be three starting flights taking place over the weekend (September 22nd and 24th) with a winner being determined on Day 2 (September 25th).

Day 1a will kick off at 3:00 p.m. local time. The Day 1’s will play down until just 12% of the field remains or until the end of Level 15, all remaining players will return on Day 2 and be considered in the money.

A starting stack for this event will be worth 25,000 chips and late registration will remain open until the start of level 13. An unlimited number of re-entries will be allowed but players may only bag one stack. The levels will be 40 minutes long throughout the tournament with a 10-minute break after every three levels.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the tournament floor to bring you all the live updates throughout the event en route to crowning another MSPT champion.
