Welcome to Day 1b of the $1,600 MSPT Venetian Main Event

Welcome to Day 1b of the $1,600 Main Event of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) stop at Venetian Las Vegas. The action will begin at 11:10 a.m. local time for the second of three starting flights.

The $1,100 version drew 464 players to the Venetian earlier this week. The event offered a $250,000 guarantee but generated $447,760 for the prize pool, and Nghia Nguyen claimed the top prize of $90,215.

Today’s event offers a $750,000 guarantee, and yesterday on Day 1a, Jesse Lonis bagged 816,000 chips to hold the chip lead over 17 surviving players from the 153 entries in the first starting flight.

Players will begin with 30,000 chips and levels will be 40 minutes each. Registration remains open until approximately 8:10 p.m. local time and reentries are unlimited. Play will continue until approximately 11% of the field remains, and all surviving players will return on Sunday for the Day 2 finale.

Cowboys Hold for McCauley

Level 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

A cutoff player opened to 800 and Michael McCauley three-bet to 2,700 on the button. Action folded back to the cutoff who called.

Both players ended up committing 11,000 each to the pot on the flop, and the cutoff moved in his remaining stack of roughly 15,000 on the turn. McCauley called.

The river bricked out to keep McCauley's kings in front, and after a count confirmed his 15,800 chips slightly covered his opponent, McCauley collected the pot for a near double as his opponent exited the table.

Vierling Eliminates Kornuth

With roughly 11,000 in the pot on a completed board, Chance Kornuth had 7,000 over the betting line from under the gun and was facing a jam by Jessica Vierling in early position.

Kornuth was covered and had a decision for his remaining stack of approximately 32,000. He deliberated for a while and, ultimately, he put in the chips.

Vierling tabled for a boat, and Kornuth's went into the muck as he exited the table.

Kornuth Finds River Call

With roughly 20,000 in the pot on a completed board, a player in the big blind led out for 15,000, and Chance Kornuth had a decision in the under-the-gun position. Kornuth thought about it and ultimately tossed in the calling chips.

With roughly 25,000 in the pot on a flop, James Romero bet 8,000 in the big blind and Josh Reichard raised to 19,000 in early position. Romero moved all in for roughly 55,000 and Reichard called.

With roughly 30,000 in the pot on a completed board, Chance Kornuth checked the big blind and Landon Tice moved all in from the under-the-gun position, barely covering Kornuth's approximately 27,000 behind. Kornuth thought about it and called.

Halverson Rivers Flush for Huge Pot

Mitchell Halverson opened to 2,600 on the button and Josh Reichard three-bet to 10,000 in the small blind. Halverson called.

The dealer spread the flop, Reichard continued for 5,500, and Halverson called.

The landed on the turn and Reichard check-called for 18,000.

The completed the board and Reichard checked. Halverson moved all in for 85,500 to send Reichard into the tank, and after receiving a count, Reichard ultimately called.

Halverson tabled his rivered flush to claim the massive pot as Reichard's cards went into the muck.

Weng Flops Nuts to Crack Hendrix's Aces

Adam Hendrix opened to 2,500 from early position, a middle position player flatted, the button flatted, and Bin Weng defended the big blind.

The dealer fanned out the flop and action checked to the button who bet 10,000. Weng called and Hendrix moved all in for approximately 23,000. The middle position player folded, the button quickly jammed for roughly 50,000, and Weng quickly called.

Hendrix's rockets flopped the worst against the flopped two pair and Weng's flopped straight. The turn and river completed the board, and Weng stayed ahead to eliminate both players.

Just before this $1,600 MSPT Venetian Main Event, the $1,100 MSPT Venetian Main Event played out and attracted 464 runners which generated a $447,670 prize pool. At the end of it, Nghia Nguyen defeated Dylan Linde in heads-up play to claim the title and $90,215.
