Peter Braglia Bags Day 1c Chip Lead of MSPT $1,600 Main Event

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Peter Braglia
Peter Braglia

After three full days of poker, all Day 1's of the Mid-Stakes Poker Tour $1,600 Venetian Main Event have come to an end.

Fittingly, the Day 1 finale produced our current tournament chip leader — none other than Peter Braglia of Las Vegas, who bagged a commanding 846,000 by the day's end.

Day 1c drew a massive 1,032 entry field that dwindled to fewer than 200 by the time play ended. When combined with the entries from Day 1a and Day 1b, the total number of entries came in at 2,011, which in turn generated a $2,865,675 prize pool.

A total of 207 players will make the money, with a min-cash being worth $3,725 and the eventual winner taking home $412,086.

Notables who bagged into Day 2 include Ryan Laplante (408,000), Nadya Magnus (263,000), Kathy Liebert (253,000), Matt Stout (83,000), Ryan Franklin (260,000), and Chris Moorman (160,000).

Some others who tried, but won't be joining us on Day 2 today include Matt Affleck, Ryan Riess, Jared Jaffee, Maria Konnikova, and Ari Engel.

Day 2 will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. local time, although players are encouraged to come a bit early to allow time to unbag their chips.

Stay tuned to PokerNews as we race toward the money bubble and continue to bring you the action from the MSPT $1,600 Venetian Main Event!

Braglia Flushing Away The Competition

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Peter Braglia
Peter Braglia

A player opened to 11,000 in early position and was called by Peter Braglia in the small blind and the player in the big blind.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} and action checked to the original raiser, who continued for 20,000. Only Braglia called.

The {2-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Braglia checked again, prompting an all-in bet for about 90,000 from his opponent. Braglia thought for a bit and called to put his opponent at risk.

Early-position player: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Braglia: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Braglia was behind, but had a lot of outs with his pair and flush draw.

The {a-Diamonds} river gave Braglia the nut flush and he eliminated his opponent.

Braglia currently sits with over 800,000 in chips and is our presumed tournament chip leader.

Laplante Takes Out Two With Cowboys

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Ryan Laplante
Ryan Laplante

Ryan Laplante opened to 4,000 from early position and was called by the hijack and button. Action folded to the big blind, who went all in for about 29,000. Laplante smooth called and the hijack folded, but the button then back-raised all in for a bit more and Laplante snap-called.

Laplante: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Button: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Big blind: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}

"I never win these," Laplante remarked.

However, the {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} runout left Laplante best with his pair of kings and he scooped the massive pot and eliminated two players in the process.

"Sometimes I win these," Lapante said with a smile.

Engel Gets Brown to Fold

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ari Engel
Ari Engel

On a board of {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{9-Clubs}, it appeared Ari Engel had bet, was called by one other player, and then squeezed to 16,600 by Camille Brown. Action was back on Engel, who raised back to 29,500. The initial caller got out of the way and Brown went into the tank.

Brown took a last peak at her cards and folded.

"I'll show if you show," Brown said. "I wanna see your cards!"

"It was a good fold," Engel replied, refusing to show his cards as he scooped the pot.

"I had aces," Brown added.

Marquez Gets All in Three Ways

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Anthony Marquez From Day 1b
Anthony Marquez From Day 1b

A player open limped from middle position and the player in the lojack raised to 1,600. The button called, Anthony Marquez called from the small blind, the big blind called, and the limper called for a five-way pot.

Everyone checked on the {6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}; however, Marquez led out for 4,500 on the {7-Hearts} turn. The player in the big blind called and the original limper then shoved for about 50,000. Action folded back around to Marquez, who called all in for about 17,000. The big blind also called all in.

Marquez: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Big blind: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Middle position player: {10-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Marquez needed the board to pair to scoop the massive pot, but the {j-Hearts} river bricked out and he was sent to the rail.

"That's so sick," Marquez said as he stood up from the table.

Vampan Calls Down

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Daniel Vampan
Daniel Vampan

Daniel Vampan opened to 600 first-to-act and directly behind him, a player three-bet to 2,000. Action folded back around to Vampan, who tossed in a call.

Vampan then proceeded to check-call on each street. First for 2,500 on the {q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop, then for 4,600 on the {3-Diamonds} turn, and finally for 6,600 on the {3-Spades} river.

His opponent reluctantly showed {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Vampan took down the pot when he revealed {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for nines and treys.

Eric Baldwin is the overall chip leader so far after bagging 645,500 on Day 1b. Not too far behind him is Day 1a chip leader Osmin Dardon with 618,000 in chips.

Other notables who have already secured a spot in Day 2 include Faraz Jaka, Andrew Moreno, Ralph Perry, Justin Young and Joseph Cheong.

Play is set to begin at 11:10 a.m. local time. Players will begin with 30,000 in chips and levels will be 40-minutes long. Blinds will begin at 100/100 and a big-blind ante will be introduced at the start of level four (200/300/300). Players will get 15-minute breaks at the end of every three levels and an hour-long dinner break at the end of level nine.

Late registration will be available until dinner break has ended and players will have the option re-enter an unlimited amount of times before then. Fifteen levels are scheduled to be played, which means action will conclude at around 11 p.m. The surviving players will bag and tag their chips and advance to Sunday's Day 2.
