The 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series Manila has determined its Main Event champion and it was Koray Aldemir who emerged victorious in the 39-entry strong field. A total of 29 unique players ponied up the buy-in of HK$1,000,000 (approx. $128,800) with 10 players entering a second time.

Within two days, the event was reduced to the final six hopefuls and the money was reached. Such big names as Phil Ivey, Six-Max champion Daniel Colman and 2016 Big One For One Drop Extravaganza champion Elton Tsang fell short at the end of Day 2. Only six hopefuls returned to the final table at the stunning Solaire Resort and Casino in the capital of the Philippines, and ultimately it was Aldemir who defeated start-of-day chip leader Sergio Aido heads up to claim the trophy.

It is the first major title for the 26-year-old German, who calls Vienna home these days. Aldemir had a golden summer of 2016 when he first finished second in the $ 1,500 No Limit Hold'em Summer Solstice (Event #33) in Las Vegas and then entered the $ 111,111 No Limit Hold'em High Roller for One Drop, banking another $2,154,265 for coming third.

On top of that, Aldemir came tenth in the 2017 Aussie Millions Main Event this year and has now added a score of HK$10,032,869 ($1,292,653) to his poker resume after cutting a three-way deal with Aido and 2016 Triton Super High Roller Series SunCity Cup champion Daniel Cates.

At the start of the six-handed final table, Aido and Aldemir were separated by just two big blinds while Bryn Kenney, who finished second to Wai Kin Yong in this very tournament in November 2016, was at the bottom of the counts with just 20 big blinds.

However, it was defending champion Wai Kin Yong who'd become the first casualty of the day. Yong was the most active player at the table early on and saw his stack fluctuate a lot, while Aldemir and Aido were pulling away from the rest of the finalists.

Kenney won a big pot off Devan Tang before doubling through Yong with pocket kings versus ace-jack. Yong was left with just four antes and bowed out one hand later with nine-seven against Aido's queen-deuce and Kenney's queen-seven suited on an ace-high board.

Devan Tang would follow soon after. The third-place finisher of the very first Triton Super High Roller Event here in Manila in January 2016, was left with just three big blinds. He first doubled through Aldemir with ace-jack suited versus eight-six suited.

One hand later, Tang moved all in again, this time from the cutoff with ace-jack off suit. Aldemir called from the small blind with king-queen suited and bested the flopped two pair of his opponent by making broadway with a ten on the turn.

Half an hour later, Bryn Kenney was sent to the rail in fourth place. After falling below a million in chips, Kenney open-shoved the small blind for fewer than 15 big blinds with king-six off suit. Dan Cates found ace-king in the big blind and called. The board ran out king-high and the kicker played in favor of Cates.

Down to the last three players, the stacks very similar and deal discussions started. Cates ultimately couldn't agree and soon after lost half of his stack in a big pot with ace-queen against the turned set of tens of Aido. The trio sat down for deal talks again and agreed on ICM numbers, with HK$400,000 and the trophy left aside to the eventual winner.

Dan "jungleman" Cates bowed out in third place when he three-bet jammed out of the small blind with king-jack off suit. Initial raiser Aido called with king-queen suited and the kicker played to eliminate Cates.

While Sergio Aido had a solid lead at the start of the heads-up, Aldemir soon closed the gap and ran well to build his lead further and further. The first all in and call of the duo saw both players turn over ace-jack suited and there would come no sweat on the board.

Aido was reduced to all but 14 big blinds when he limp-called a shove by Aldemir with king-ten off suit. Koray Aldemir had ace-deuce suited and faded the two live cards, gutshot and turned flush draw of Aido to claim the title in Manila.

After all the hard work was done, the winner pictures were taken and Aldemir was presented with the trophy by Founder of Triton Poker Richard Yong, Tony Boglic representing Solaire Resort and Casino, and Maria Riza Riego de Dios-Torres representing Hublot as official timekeeper of the high-stakes festival in Manila.

The Triton Super High Roller Series promised to be even bigger than the last edition by doubling its Main Event buy-in and provided all the high-stakes players with an excellent location and exclusive service.

The next edition of the festival is already being planned and will be held later this year in Macau. All further information about that stop can be found on the Triton Poker Series website.

Sergio Aido

The new level saw Sergio Aido's stack down to just 12 big blinds and a few hands followed without much of a change. Then, Aido limped in from the small blind and Koray Aldemir took off his sunglasses and glanced over to the other side of the table. "How much do you have, Sergio?" Aldemir asked and Aido replied "around 1.4 million."

Aldemir moved all in and Aido called a few seconds later to put himself at risk.

Sergio Aido: {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Koray Aldemir: {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

The board ran out {Q-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Aido missed out on his two live cards, gutshot and flush draw in order to be eliminated in 2nd place. According to the deal, the Spaniard takes home HK$10,378,375 for his efforts while Aldemir will shortly pose for the winner pictures and receive the trophy along with a payday of HK$10,032,869.

A recap of today's action will be available soon.

Soon after agreeing to a deal, Dan Cates got his stack in from the small blind. It was Sergio Aido who had raised to 150,000 from the button and Cates' shove was for around 1,400,000. Aido just wanted to have a rough estimate and nodded, called and the cards were turned over.

Dan Cates: {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Sergio Aido: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}

"That is not a bad fold, eh?" Cates shrugged over to Koray Aldemir before the flop fell {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Cates had some chop outs, but the {4-Clubs} turn and {8-Spades} river were both blanks. According to the deal numbers, Cates takes home HK$7,7651,156 for his efforts.

Aido starts heads up with a solid, but not dominating lead.

Down to around 875,000, Bryn Kenney open-shoved only moments into the new level from the small blind and Dan Cates peeked at his cards, then quickly called.

The board ran out {K-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and the kicker played a crucial role to eliminate Kenney in 4th place for $ 506,090. On top of that, the American poker pro also claims important points for the yearly ranking and the remaining three players have $722,930 locked up for their efforts.

Devan Tang Eliminated in 5th Place (HK$2,780,000/$361,400)

Level 18 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Devan Tang

Another two hands would see the next player out of chips and it was Devan Tang who had to settle for 5th place and a payday of $361,400.

Hand 1

Tang open-shoved from the button for his last 175,000 and Koray Aldemir called in the big blind.

Devan Tang: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Koray Aldemir: {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

"I hope you flop a flush," Tang joked, and the board came {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{K-Spades} to let Tang double with ace-high.

Hand 2

One hand later, Tang moved all in again, this time for 395,000 from the cutoff. Aldemir called out of the small blind and Sergio Aido got out of the way in the big blind.

Devan Tang: {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
Koray Aldemir: {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The flop of {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} was a sweat with top two pair versus straight and flush draw. After the {10-Diamonds} turn, Aldemir improved to a straight and the blank {3-Clubs} river changed nothing anymore. Tang doubled once, but could not fade the run-good of Aldemir a second time to join the rail.

After the hand, the stop was clocked and Daniel Colman was presented the trophy for taking down the 6-Max Event.

Level 18 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Wai Kin Yong
Wai Kin Yong

Within two hands, the stack of defending Triton Super High Roller Series Manila Main Event Wai Kin Yong has been reduced to zero.

Hand 1

Bryn Kenney opened to 110,000 and Yong shoved all in from the small blind, Kenney called within a heartbeat.

Bryn Kenney: {K-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Wai Kin Yong: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and the stacks were counted. Kenney was all in for 925,000 and Yong had that covered by just half a big blind.

Hand 2

One hand later, Yong was all in blind without looking at his cards on the button. Sergio Aido filled up from the small blind and Kenney checked in the big blind. Both remaining active players checked down the board of {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Aido showed {Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. Kenney had the {Q-Spades}{7-Spades} and Yong was sweating his cards.

"Oh wow, I have outs," Yong said and first turned over the {9-Spades}. He then squeezed the second card and it was the {7-Hearts}, sending Yong to the rail in 6th place for $289,120.

Only Six Players Remain for the Final Showdown in Manila

Defending champion Wai Kin Yong is third in chips
Defending champion Wai Kin Yong is third in chips

The final day of the exclusive 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series Manila has come and just six players out of a 39-entry strong field, including 10 re-entries, remain to battle for the title and a massive payday in the HK$ 1,000,000 Main Event (approx. $128,800) here at the Solaire Resort and Casino in the capital of the Philippines.

Many big names of the international high-stakes poker circuit made the trip to Manila, and superstars such as Daniel Colman, Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel missed out on the money last night. 2016 Big One For One Drop Extravaganza champion Elton Tsang was denied a second high-roller title after he was eliminated on the money bubble and that set up the final six for today's showdown.

Leading the finalists is Sergio Aido, who claimed 2,490,000, just two big blinds ahead of Germany's Koray Aldemir (2,420,000). The other finalists include defending Triton Super High Roller Manila Main Event champion Wai Kin Yong (1,705,000), 2016 Triton Suncity Cup winner Dan Cates (1,475,000), Devan Tang (1,045,000) and Bryn Kenney (615,000).

Within less than one year, Aido has reached his fourth final table and cash during the high-stakes festival and also won the HK$100,000 Single Day High Roller of the Macau Poker Cup just one week ago for a payday of HK$2,074,000 (~USD $268,000). Aldemir finished third in the 2016 $ 111,111 No Limit Hold'em High Roller for One Drop during the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas last summer, while Yong may even top the payday of HK$ 16,135,550 from last November after emerging victorious to take down the first ever HK$ 500,000 Triton Super High Roller Series Main Event.

Cates claimed the title of the Suncity Cup during the same festival and Kenney needs little introduction as well, having amassed more than $13.7 million in tournament cashes. Tang's biggest score comes off a third-place finish in the inaugural $200,000 Triton Super High Roller Series as part of the World Poker Tour National Philippines in January 2016, earning him a payday of $1,405,500.

The six finalists are playing for their share of the massive HK$ 37,073,400 (approximately $4,776,484) prize pool, and the payouts are as follows:

Kenney will be the short stack with just over 20 big blinds when action resumes in two hours from now at 1 p.m. local time with 26:33 minutes left in level 16 at blinds of 15,000-30,000 and a running ante of 5,000. Representatives of Triton Poker, the Solaire Resort and Casino as well as Hublot, the official timekeeper of the 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series Manila, will present the trophies to the 6-Max and Main Event champion once the last river card has been dealt, and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide all action until then.
