Play concluded as the money bubble burst after over 13 hours of play. Mark Whitney leads at the end of Day 1a of the PokerStars UKIPT Nottingham Main Event.

Whitney was top of the pack virtually all day and was on a tear. He won a huge 200 big blind pot during the middle of the day as his top set held against his opponent king-high flush draw when all the money went in on the top. Whitney maintained his huge stack until the end of the day where he bagged 385,000.

PokerStars Team Pro Georgina James as well as Jack Hardcastle were eliminated earlier in the day but will have another opportunity to make it to Day 2 in flight 1b. Day 1b is expected to be bigger as qualifiers from todays satellite and from the UKIPT Mini join the field from 12 p.m. local time.

Other notables securing a bag included Ben Jones (376,000), Alberto Speranzoni (359,000) and Robbie Bull (309,000).

Usman Siddique raised to 13,000 from middle position before Pin Ong moved all in from the small blind for 33,000. Cameron Williamson call in the big blind.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and action went check-check.

The {2-Diamonds} was the turn and Williamson bet 25,000. Siddique folded.

Ong had been out flopped and was drawing to one out to avoid being the bubble boy. It didn't come as the river was the {a-Diamonds} which sent Ong home with nothing.

There was 25,000 in the pot as the board was {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

Jack Hardcastle was in the small blind and checked to Daniel Platt in early position who bet 14,000. Hardcastle moved all in for 37,500. Platt asked the dealer for a count before going into the tank for over three minutes as he pained over his decision.

Eventually Platt made the call. Hardcastle showed {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two pair while Platt showed {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for three-of-a-kind to eliminate Hardcastle. No doubt Hardcastle will re-enter either in this flight or the next.

Whitney Continues to Accumulate

The turn paired the board as it came the {8-Clubs} in which Pilkington led out for 4,000. Only Whitney called.

The {8-Hearts} was the river and Pilkington checked. Whitney bet 15,000 and Pilkington counted out calling chip before throwing them into the middle. Whitney showed {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for a full house which Pilkington couldn't beat as he continued to chip up.

Welcome to Day 1a of the PokerStars UKIPT Nottingham £1,100 Main Event from Dusk Till Dawn

Welcome to Day 1a of the PokerStars United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour Nottingham £1,100 Main Event live from Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club.

The UKIPT circuit makes its long-awaited return to the home of British poker, Dusk Till Dawn, with two Day 1 flights as well as plenty of side events. The PokerStars UKIPT Nottingham Main Event features a £500,000 guarantee which will be sure to generate lots of interest from poker players across the United Kingdom & Ireland and beyond.

The action will start at 12:00 p.m. local time and players will start with 30,000 chips and start with 40 minute levels where the blinds will start at 100/100 with an 100 big blind ante. From level 17 the clock will increase to 60 minutes as players enter the money. There will be regular 15-minute break every two/three levels with a 60-minute dinner break after level 10 at approximately 7:25 p.m. local time.

Late registration remains open until the end of the tenth level, during which players can enter two times per flight. Each Day 1 ends when only 15% of the field remain in which they will enter Day 2 having locked up at least a min cash. For Day 2 the survivors from both flights will join together on Saturday 30th July. The Main Event will crown its champion on Sunday 31st July.

The last leg of the UKIPT was UKIPT London where James Rann took home the biggest chunk of the £619,200 prize pool with the first place prize of £86,568 where he defeated 645 entrants back in April.

PokerStars Team Pro players Benjamin "Spraggy" Spragg, Georgina James and Mason Pye are expected to be in attendance for the main event.
