The atmosphere after the dinner break is usually markedly different to the preceding six hours of play and here at the Isle of Man UKIPT that has proved to be the case. Short stacks with little room for manoeuvre are looking to get it in and there have already been a slew of bust outs.
The other thing that happens is that players with full bellies are thirsty for a drink. Some more than others. Isle of Man Chef of the year Darren "Tam Beetroot" Woods offered to buy Chris Moneymaker a drink and he asked for a Bourbon and Coke. Informed that this was unavailable at Vila Marina he said, “That sucks. I’ll get one at the end of the day.” Woods then ordered himself, “Three Sambucas and a pint of lager.”
When told there was four more hours of poker to play Woods was unimpressed saying, "I'm here for a good time, not for a long time."
The numbers are officially in and there were 257 players who entered the tournament today. Adding to the 145 who played yesterday gives a grand total of 402 players meaning the overlay is just shy of £70,000.
A full list of payouts will follow later.
Eugene Katchalov found a nice hand and was all in with ![]()
. We just caught the end of the action as the dealer was sweeping up the cards and a king had hit the board.
Unfortunately for the Team PokerStars Pro his opponent had ![]()
in front of him and Katchalov was gone, unable to do any damage today with his second bullet.

Victoria Coren Mitchell wasn’t at her seat at the table after play had resumed and, as she had been getting a bit short on chips and there was a healthy stack where she had been sitting, we inquired of Fintan Gavin if that was indeed her stack.
Gavin confirmed it was and told us an imprecise story of Coren Mitchell tripling up with ![]()
versus ![]()
and ![]()
and then eliminating another player a short while later again with ![]()
.

Sarah spoke to motorcycle racer Conor Cummins about his 2010 TT crash.
David K Lappin wasn’t in the best of moods this morning. Having narrowly failed to make it through to the end of Day 1a he was back for another go today when it sounded as he would rather have been sleeping in and playing chess. He certainly seems to be in a better mood now though as he has a 68,000 stack in front of him.
As we approached the table he was dragging a decent pot and explaining to a blonde Swedish player, Linda Willix, why he had played the hand as he had and how it might have played out differently if she had moved all in. The look on her face though was less enraptured pupil and more disgusted teacher. Still, the Lappin charm can’t work on everyone and he seemed happy enough.
