Day 1a Started

Copenhagen Welcomes the Unibet Open

Once again the Unibet Open has set foot in Copenhagen; it's time for the tours third edition in the Danish capital. Again Copenhagen will be the stage for four days of poker action from the casino inside the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel.

This event debuted on the Unibet Open calendar back in 2013. In march of that year it was Kassem Yassine who took down the event for 725,000 Danish kronen (€107,367/$126,744). Last year hometown favorite and former EPT champ Frederik Jensen outlasted everyone and claimed victory in the sold out event for the sum of DKr 625,000 (€83,750/$116,168).

The hotel was already buzzing with players late last night, so it promises to be a busy tournament again. PokerNews is here from start to finish to bring you updates on all the big names playing this event, the local heros going for their first deep run, and the qualifiers bluffing the pro's.

Play will start at noon (in about 3 hours) and players will have a 30,000 start stack to work with. All levels will be 60 minutes long with the first level being 50/100, meaning a 300 big blind stack awaits the players. After every second level a 15-minute break will be held, the structure dictates a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level.

Who's Here?

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Well, the room is packed, so there are a lot of players.

During our first round we mostly found Dutch Unibet Open regulars. Former Unibet Open champion Mateusz Moolhuizen is playing, with his good friend and Unibet Open regular Johan Goslings on the table right next to him. Moolhuizen drove here in his new car along with Hans de Hond who also owns a car made for speeding.

Bracelet winner Vincent van der Fluit is here, Unibet ambassador Dan Glimne was spotted, and Mikael "Micky" Norinder is ready for action here on Day 1a.

Bet, Bet, Bet

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jonas Klausen opened before the flop and the player on the button and the player in the big blind came along for the ride.

The big blind checked to Klausen on {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} and a 550 continuation bet followed. The button was quick to call, the big blind folded. Klausen bet another 1,300 on the {5-Diamonds}-turn and once again the button made the call.

The {5-Clubs} on the river made for three fives on the board and Klausen looked at his stack, picked out a yellow 5,000 chip and a blue 1,000 chip, and tossed them in. The 6,000 bet wouldn't get called, the button quickly released his hand.

"You Call Me with Ace King?"

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The only lady at the table opened while letting out a big sigh, and Vincent van der Fluit made the call right next to her in the hijack. One more player made the call before the big blind, who was already seen squeezing seven five off suit earlier today, squeezed to 1,000. The lady made the call and now Van der Fluit resqueezed to 3,300. The first player folded, the big blind and the lady made the call.

All three of them checked on {4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Hearts} and the {9-Spades} popped up on the turn. The big blind glanced at his stack, and eventually decided on betting 3,000. Van der Fluit was the sole caller, his neighbor folded before him.

The {5-Hearts} fell on the turn and the big blind immediately checked. Van der Fluit checked behind.

"Only two tens" the big blind said turning over {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Van der Fluit mucked.

"Put you on two jacks, that's why I checked. Little bit scary. You got ace king? You call me with ace king?" said the big blind. "Must be ace king yeah" said Van der Fluit.
