Defending Champ Hennebjerre Off To Blazing Start

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Theis Hennebjerre - defending Unibet Open Copenhagen champion - started the day with just 47,700 chips, and right now he's already up to 190,000.

This puts Hennebjerre in the top five as of right now, just one hour into Day 2. Hennebjerre's only live tournament cash to date was his victory in Copenhagen last year, and by the looks of it he's headed for another cash here at Casino Copenhagen.

Simpson Gets Aggressive

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Ian Simpson raised to 5,200 from early position and from his direct left Cristian Cirtog three-bet to 13,500. The action folded back around to Simpson and he quickly made the call.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Simpson check-called a bet of 12,000 before the turn brought out the {10-Clubs}.

Simpson grabbed some chips and took over the betting lead by firing out 38,000, and Cirtog went into the tank.

After a bit Cirtog called, and the river completed the board with the {Q-Diamonds}.

"All in," Simpson calmly announced on the river for about 75,000, being covered by Cirtog who had 90,000 in front of him.

Cirtog tanked for a long time, but eventually he folded and Simpson mucked his cards as he raked in the chips.

Hennebjerre's Hands

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

One of our Danish colleagues just spoke to defending Unibet Open Copenhagen champion Theis Hennebjerre about the hands that catapulted him up the chip counts.

Hennebjerre first won a big flip with ace-queen versus nines in a blind battle, followed by aces to ace-queen in another confrontation from the same position.

Hennebjerre now sits on 175,000 chips.

Kara Rivers Sorensen in Big Clash

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Andreas Sorensen was seemingly on his way to a big stack, but the river ruined his plans as it gave Tutku Halima Kara the winning hand.

Kara told us at the completion of the hand that he called a raise from the big blind, after which the flop brought out {J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Kara check-called another bet and on the turn the {6-Hearts} hit.

"I checked again, and he moved all in," Kara said, as he risked his stack worth 61,500 on the turn.

Sorensen showed pocket queens, and he was well ahead against Kara's {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}.

The river brought the {K-Hearts}, and Kara jumped out of his seat in excitement. Sorensen shook his head and left the table for a hand as Kara stacked his newly won chips.

Double Knock Out For Hegedus

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Former Unibet Open Copenhagen runner up Emil Hegedus just knocked out two players in one hand.

Hegedus raised from the button, Morten Brenoe shoved for around 15 big blinds from the small blind and the Karsten Nielsen shoved over the top for 30 big blinds from the big blind.

Hegedus made the call to put two of his opponents at risk holding pocket tens, and he was up against threes and ace-king.

The board brought mere blanks, and the Hungarian player raked in this massive pot.

Jensen Check-Raises The River

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

EPT Copenhagen runner-up Soren Jensen just battled against Unibet Open Copenhagen runner-up Emil Hegedus, and the former got the better of the latter.

With a board showing {J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Spades} Jensen checked to Hegedus who bet 15,300, and Jensen check-raised to 55,200.

Hegedus tanked for several minutes before the clock was called, and he let his final minute run out before his hand was declared dead.

Hegedus took a little hit, while Jensen's among the tournament chip leaders.

Dumitru Finds Runner Runner to Double

Level 12 : 1,600/3,200, 400 ante

Eduard Dumitru got his last 32,000 in the middle holding {Q-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and he was called by Mike Hansen who showed up with {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}.

The {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Hearts} was anything but good for Dumitru and he got up from the table. The {A-Spades} on the turn made him sit back down again as he now had outs, and he hit one of them with the {J-Hearts} on the river. Double up for Dumitru, Hansen now the short stack.

No 3-Time Champ

Level 12 : 1,600/3,200, 400 ante
Mateusz Moolhuizen
Mateusz Moolhuizen

There are only two players in the world who have two Unibet Open titles; Dan Murariu and Mateusz Moolhuizen. Murariu didn't play this tournament, he was busy in Barcelona, but Moolhuizen did come over to give it a try.

He started out the shortest of all players but a series of double ups had him catapult his stack to 170,000. The roller coaster continued a downward trend after that, though, as he lost half of his stack in a hand where he himself proclaimed to have made a mistake in.

Left with 80,000, he just made his exit on the live streamed feature table. We weren't there when it happened but one of his friends in the field told us Moolhuizen had gotten it in with {A-}{Q-} against a pair of either nines or tens. Moolhuizen flopped an ace but his opponent made a flush to send the 2-time champ packing.
