We just wrote about Alan "Hotted89" Widmann running up his stack to 150,000, but in one big hand, it was all gone just like that. The executioner was Pekka Ikonen, who now possesses a monstrous stack of 530,000.
According to Widmann, he was up with against Ikonen's . The flop was and the turn brought the . Widmann check-shoved all in and got called by the bigger two pair. The river was not one of the remaining jacks and he was eliminated.
Jasper Meijer van Putten has hit the rail in shocking fashion in what must have been one of the most brutal bad beats of his career.
It was Kaarel Lepik who opened to 9,000 in middle position. Meijer van Putten three-bet to 23,000 from the cutoff, Lepik four-bet to 50,000 and Meijer van Putten called.
The flop was and Lepik checked. Meijer van Putten bet 35,000, Lepik check-raised all in and the EPT13 Prague champion snap-called his remaining 95,000 off.
Kaarel Lepik:
Jasper Meijer van Putten:
Meijer van Putten was in fantastic shape to scoop the nearly 400,000 pot. Lepik needed one of the kings or a miracle runner-runner to snatch it from the Dutchman. One of those backdoor draws opened up with the on the turn, giving Lepik a flush draw to go with his kings.
Sure enough, the river was the and Lepik improved to an improbable flush. The Estonian raked in the monster pot and Meijer van Putten was forced to the rail just before the money.
Kristoffer Rossevold shoved from the cutoff to put all three players behind him at risk. Karsten Johansen called 94,000 all-in from the big blind.
Kristoffer Rossevold:
Karsten Johansen:
Johansen's lead evaporated after the flop. The Dane suddenly found himself in a deep hole and the on the turn left him drawing to the remaining jacks.
The river sealed the hand for Rossevold and gave Johansen the dubious honor of bubble boy. With Johansen's exit, all other players are guaranteed at least DDK 15,700.
With already substantial action between Jes Bondo and Tomasz Kozub on earlier streets, they arrived on the turn on a board. Bondo checked, Kozub bet 70,000 and Bondo called.
The river was the and Bondo led out with a bet of 100,000. Kozub spent around 90 seconds in the tank before moving all in for 357,000. Bondo raised his eyebrows when he saw the shove.
"Three hundred or so?", the Dane asked and the dealer confirmed the exact amount. After twenty seconds, Bondo committed the calling chips to create the biggest pot of the tournament so far.
Kozub showed the mortal nuts with and Bondo mucked his hand face-down.
It's been a bad hour for the Martins, as the third of their name busted as well. 2016 Unibet Open Malta champion Martin Soukup's second deep run in an Unibet Open event came to an end at the hands of Thomas Ardai.
It was Ardai who opened with in middle position. Soukup shoved around 175,000 from late position with and Ardai called. The board ran out and Ardai turned the winner.
Bhavin Khatri, the two-time Unibet Open Londen finalist, has been eliminated from the tournament in 22nd place. Khatri was left very short after clashing with Tomasz Kozub and couldn't muster a comeback. He received DKK 27,900 for his deep run.
Chipleader Monica Vaka and another big stack Tomasz Kozub were seated next to each other with the redraw and the two instantly tangled in a big pot.
Ionut-Alin Tambura played a supporting role by setting up the clash. The Romanian raised to 40,000 in middle position, Vaka three-bet to 92,000 from the cutoff, Kozub four-bet to 150,000 on the button, Tambura folded and Vaka called.
On the flop, Vaka checked, Kozub bet 125,000 and Vaka quickly called.
The turn was the and Vaka checked a second time. Kozub cut out a bet of 200,000 and Vaka once again called without much hesitation.
Both players quickly checked the on the river.
"King high," Vaka said with a hint of sadness in her voice as she showed . Kozub opened up and dragged in the big pot.
In two stages, Jonathon Nissen lost his stack to bust in 18th place. In the first hand, Martin Wendt open-shoved 241,000 and Nissen called from the big blind. Wendt had and held up against Nissen's to cripple the Dane.
With his last ten big blinds, Nissen shoved into the of Peter Harkes, didn't improve, and busted.
Boszormenyi's roller coaster day has come to an end in 17th place. The 'Zoltan of Swings' has seen all sides of the leaderboard today but was dangling on the bottom in the past hour.
With 120,000 left, Boszormenyi went all in with and Martin Wendt called with . The best hand won and Boszormenyi was off to collect his winnings.
