Chidwick Goes from the Bottom to the Top

Level 18

PLO

Stephen Chidwick was down to fewer than three big bets just a few moments ago but a streak of winning hands allowed him vault all the way to the top spot. He recently snatched the lead from Isaac Haxton after beating him in a hand of PLO.

Chidwick raised the button with {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and Haxton defended his big blind with {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}. The flop fell {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Chidwick was still in front with his overpair but Haxton had a flush draw along with a pair of sevens. Both players checked to let the {9-Diamonds} turn appear for free.

Haxton hit top two and led out with a pot-sized bet, making it 245,000. Chidwick studied the situation for a moment and called.

The {2-Hearts} river missed Haxton's flush draw, and, more importantly, gave Chidwick better two pair. Both players checked and Haxton announced his nine-seven. Chidwick showed him the tens and Haxton nodded, realizing he was defeated.
