Welcome to the 2022 Winamax Poker Open Madrid €500 Main Event

With live poker returning from a hiatus all over the world, the next operator to test the waters is French online giant Winamax. The popular Winamax Poker Open has been taking place since 2010 when it all kicked off in Dublin and quickly became a favorite festival for many aspiring recreationals and professionals alike.

For the latest installment and the first since 2019, the online poker and sports betting giant is heading to the Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones situated on the outskirts of the city.

The marquee event of the series is the 2022 WPO Madrid €500 Main Event, which already had more than 600 players pre-registered for the first three flights one day prior to the start of the event. This includes qualifiers on the French and Spanish Winamax poker platform as well as local players who secured their entry early on.

All signs point towards a very busy few days ahead and it may even be possible that a new record for the series will be set. In 2013, the WPO Main Event first surpassed 1,000 entries and Frenchman Jerome Guermeur topped a field of 1,086 entries. Notable winners thereafter included current Winamax Team Pro Pierre Calamusa and WSOP bracelet winner Antonin Teisseire. The record attendance was set in 2019 with Philippe Guillou emerging victoriously among 1,389 total entries.

The 2022 WPO Madrid €500 Main Event consists of four starting days and three of them have a regular duration of 30 minutes each from May 11 to 13 with a kick-off time at noon. Furthermore, there is also a turbo heat on May 13 as well which features levels of 15 minutes each as of 9pm local time.

All players receive 50,000 in chips and the late registration in each regular heat is open for the first 16 levels. One re-entry is allowed for each heat and the registration will close at the end of level 16. The survivors will then return for Day 2 and aim to play down to make it one step further to crowning a champion in Madrid.

It's not only about the poker action but Winamax also provides plenty of side activities for all participants as well. That includes the popular Beer Pong Open, a Masterclass with the Winamax Team Pros, Bongo Loco, and a player's party on Friday the 13th.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide coverage of the WPO Madrid Main Event until a winner has been crowned on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
