Elpayaa is the First to Climb Over 1,000,000

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Joe Elpayaa
Joe Elpayaa

Joon Cho was down to just 27,000 and he stuck in the last of it from middle position. Salvador Cervantes called from the hijack and Joe Elpayaa three-bet to 95,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Cervantes called to create a heads-up side pot.

The dealer fanned the flop of {j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {10-Spades} on the turn. Two more checks and the {3-Clubs} landed on the river. Cervantes and Elpayaa decided to check it down and all hands were tabled. Cervantes showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} while Elpayaa had {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for two pair. Cho had nothing to put up a fight with {k-Spades}{5-Spades} and he was eliminated as Elpayaa dragged in both pots.

Eskandar Binks the Ace

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

"I've laid it down three times already," Patrick Eskandar declared, turning over {a-}{q-} after shoving his last 40,000 or so in and being at risk against another player's {k-}{k-}.

Eskandar picked the right time to go with it, as after a bricky flop hit, an ace arrived on the turn to secure him a double.

Bozkurt Doubles with Queens

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Gary Sixkiller raised it up 20,000 and Ekrem Bozkurt three-bet to 115,000 directly to his left. The action folded back to Sixkiller who quickly made the call.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Sixkiller check-called the all in of Bozkurt for an additional 69,000. Bozkurt turned over {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} while Sixkiller needed to pair up with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}. The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and the river brought the {8-Diamonds} securing the double up for Bozkurt.

Greenblatt Leaves Sowell Drawing Dead

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

With the board reading {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades} and around 50,000 already in the middle, Jeff Sowell tossed in a bet and then called the all in from Alex Greenblatt. The all in amount was for 218,000 and Greenblatt gave Sowell the bad news.

Greenblatt turned a flush with {q-Spades}{10-Spades} and Sowell was already drawing dead holding just a straight with {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. The insignificant {a-Spades} landed on the river and Greenblatt was rewarded with the double up.

Wang Drops Another

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

After a late-position open to 14,000, Mike Wang moved all in from the small blind. Big blind Michael Simpson thought a bit and announced a call. The third player folded.

Mike Wang: {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}
Michael Simpson: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The third player said he had pocket tens, which would have been good on the {7-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Spades}{j-Diamonds} board. As it went, Wang shipped another double.

Marines Doubles Through Wang

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Mike Wang raised it up to 14,000 from early position and picked up one called along the way. Julio Marines was sitting in the big blind with just 95,000 and pushed it all into the middle. Wang thought for a moment and then made the call while the other player laid his hand down.

Julio Marines: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Mike Wang: {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The flop came {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Marines picked up a flush draw to go with his two live cards. The {j-Hearts} on the turn gave him even more outs and the {q-Hearts} on the river was one of them. Marines scored a double up at the hands of Wang who had a good start to the day.

Hirons Denies Kessler from Spinning It Up

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Mike Crow came into the day as one of the short stacks and he shipped all in for his last 36,000 from early position. Larry Hirons called from the button and Allen Kessler also called from the big blind.

The flop fell {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Kessler shoved all in for around 80,000. Hirons quickly called and all three were tabled. Kessler showed {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} but Hirons flopped a set with {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Crow was well behind with his holding of {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

The turn brought the {7-Clubs} which gave Kessler a straight draw but the {5-Clubs} on the river only improved Hirons to a full house. Both Kessler and Crow headed for the payout desk while Hirons stacked their chips.

Eskandar Finds a Favorable Runout

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Lou Garza raised to 12,000 from under the gun and Paul Schwartz called from the small blind along with Patrick Eskandar in the big blind. The flop fell {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and the action checked to Garza who continued for 15,000. Schwartz folded and Eskandar shipped all in for 47,000.

Garza went into the tank for a couple of minutes, really contemplating calling the extra 32,000. He did, in fact, do so and the cards were on their backs. Eskandar showed {q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a flush draw while Garza held {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for the lone pair. The turn was the {7-Clubs} which gave Eskandar some more outs and the {q-Spades} on the river improved his hand to two pair.

Eskandar went running two pair to score the double up and put a small dent in Garza's stack.
