Mariz flopped huge as the dealer fanned out . Billard needed a jack and that's just what he got, improving to a full house when the landed on the turn.
The river was the and Billard raked in the pot, doubling to over 200,000.
David Ormsby moved all-in for 91,500 from under the gun and it was Eric Aucoin on the button that made the call.
Ormsby was at risk with live cards holding . Aucoin tabled and immediately made a pair of jacks as the dealer fanned a flop reading . The turn was the and Ormsby was left drawing dead to the on the river.
"I feel like a professional player" laughed Aucoin as he raked in the pot.
Jiachen Gong had lost most of his stack early in the day and was down to 10,500. He moved all-in from late position and Sam Chartier was in the big blind and said, "I would like to call" and tossed in some chips.
Gong was at risk with , well ahead of Chartier's . "I was very patience with my last two big blinds" he laughed.
Unfortunately for him, the flop came and Chartier paired his jack. "That's bad. It always comes when you say that" said Gong as he gathered his things. The turn was the and the river was the sending him to the rail.
Thomas Cemm will return for Day 2 as the chipleader of World Cup of Cards Event #19: $5k 8-max at Playground Poker Club. Cemm leads a field of 18 Day 1 survivors, most likely joined by some late arrivals early on Day 2.
Registration remains open until the start of Day 2 though anyone brave enough to fire a bullet at this stage will begin with just 20 big blinds in a field boasting the brightest local poker minds.
Cemm starts the day with 436,500. Holding a slight lead over popular Twitch streamer Parker 'Tonkaaaap' Talbot (424,000).
