Sebastien Labbe Leads Canadian Poker Championships at the End of Day 2

Level 17 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Sebastien Labbe

Day 2 of the marquee event of the 2017 World Cup of Cards is in the books after a late finish after the 5:00 p.m. start-time. The Canadian Poker Championships guaranteed a prize pool of $2 million dollars by partypoker and the Playground Poker Club.

Sebastien Labbe is the chip leader at the end of play today with a whopping 15,970,000 chips to lead the field of 145 remaining players. The day began with 419 players but after Level 12, there were 107 additional entries. In second place is Tommy Coulombe sitting on a stack of 15,500,000 chips, with multi-tabling beast Mike Leah (14,315,000), Playground1000 Champion Charles La Boissonnier (13,555,000), and Day 1 chip leader Daren Keyes (13,265,000) rounding out the top five stacks going into Day 3 on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

When all was said and done, there were 899 entries between the Phase One tournaments, both live and online, the online and live Day 1's, as well as Day 2 entries. A total of 162 players were to be paid with a min-cash worth $2,000. First-place works out to be $400,000 for the winner, along with the shiny trophy and the brag-worthy title of the 2017 Canadian Poker Championships Winner!

Since there are 145 players remaining, they are all in the money and guaranteed a payout worth $2,000 at the start of play tomorrow. The next pay-jump happens at 120th place for $3,000. While that may be the case, everyone will be super focused on that elusive final table and trying to spin up a stack or bust in the quest to the fourth and final day on Wednesday.

Here is a look at the top payouts on the final table:

The money bubble burst about halfway through the final level of the night when Leo Hackenbroch and James Rubin were all-in at the same time on different tables. Hackenbroch ran ace-queen into ace-king and was unable to get any help, while Rubin ran pocket jacks into Ari Engel's queens and couldn't get lucky. The two of them shared the 162nd-place prize of $2,000 for $1,000 a piece and there was no official bubble boy or girl. Interestingly enough, Lily Kornik still had a single T500,000 chip and survived the bubble to squeak into the money. In the end, she bagged for Day 3 after spinning her stack up to 1,560,000 for a shot at some real money.

Familiar faces in contention on Day 3 tomorrow include Jonathan Marrie (10,800,000), Kevin Rivest (10,375,000), Sam Chartier (9,350,000), Duff Charette (9,320,000), newly-crowned $10K WCOOP High Roller champion Patrick Serda (8,880,000), Joe Tehan (8,585,000), Ari Engel (7,615,000), Guillaume Nolet (6,500,000), 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess (6,080,000), WPT champion Ema Zajmovic (4,995,000), Chance Kornuth (4,440,000), 2013 November Niner Marc Etienne Mclaughlin (3,495,000), 2012 WSOP Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel (3,315,000), WSOP Millionare Maker champion Pablo Mariz (2,835,000), WPT champion Eric Afriat (2,155,000), and Pascal Lefrancois (850,000).

While many tough players made it through, even more didn't. Among the players to hit the rail before the money included partypoker Team Pros Kristen Bicknell and Natalia Breviglieri along with Carter Swidler, Stephan Tzoutzourakis, Francois Billard, Marc-Andre Ladouceur, Jason 'BebeChien' Duval, Laurence 'LadyLuckPoker' Grondin, Armand 'OysterKing' King, Rodney Ramalho, $10K High Roller champion Jeff Cormier, Will Failla, Nikolas Chinell, Wesley Wong, Mark Radoja, Griffin Benger, $5K High Roller champion Shaan Siddiqui, Marc-Olivier Carpentier-Perrault and Peter Chien.

A full list of counts and a table draw has been posted below.

Hackenbroch & Rubin Share the Bubble

There will not be a bubble boy/girl in the Canadian Poker Championships.

Leo Hackenbroch and James Rubin will share the title. They will also share the 162nd prize of $2,000.

Rubin ran {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} into Ari Engel's {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} and Engel flopped a queen to quickly snuff out any hope Rubin may have had.

Hackenbroch three-bet jammed on Ko Maddock with {a-Spades}{q-Clubs} but found himself dominated against Maddock's {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. Hackenbroch faired a little better through the {7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} board, picking up chop outs and a straight draw but ultimately whiffed on the river.

The remaining players are now in the money.

Labbe Hero Calls For Largest Pot of the Event

Level 17 : 60,000/120,000, 120,000 ante
Sebastien Labbe
Sebastien Labbe

A pot of roughly 6,000,000 was piled up in the middle of the table staring down Daune Fernandez and Sebastien Labbe.

The board read {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Fernandez slid out a bet worth 3,900,000 sending Labbe deep into the tank.

Labbe contemplated for about five minutes before making the call.

Fernandez tabled {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Labbe quickly turned over {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for just a pair of tens and dragged in the largest pot of the tournament.

He then made it to Day 1 and brought forth 2,053,000 chips into Day 2.

He now sits on 4,600,000 in chips and could very well be guaranteed $2,000 shortly, with a shot at $400,000!

Another Stack Claimed by Kornuth

Level 15 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Jonathan Duhamel kicked off the action with an open to 175,000 from the cutoff. Chance Kornuth flatted from the small blind and then Brady Hinnegan three-bet jammed all-in for 1,170,000 in the big blind.

Duhamel took a moment before making the call only to see Kornuth four-bet shove over the top. A call would Duhamel at risk and he eventually folded.

Hinnegan: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Kornuth: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Kornuth had set the trap and it worked to perfection. Hinnegan would see his run come to an end after finding no help from a {j-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs} board.

'SuperSerda' Ships Online $10K High Roller, Crosses 10 Million and Busts Karamalikis

Level 15 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Patrick Serda
Patrick Serda

We got to the table as Jonathan Karamalikis was all-in from the cutoff for his last 600,000 chips and was called by his good friend Patrick 'SuperSerda' Serda on the button.

Karamalikis was at risk with {a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, up against Serda's {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

The flop came {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Serda picked up a straight draw with Karamalikis still ahead with ace-high. As the dealer was putting out the {2-Spades} on the turn, Serda noticed the draw and said "Oh! Showers!" Sure enough, the river was the {9-Clubs} to complete Serda's straight and Karamalikis was eliminated. Serda laughed and said "I'll see you later" while Karamalikis wished the table good luck and headed to the rail.

Serda came in to the day with 1,400,000 in chips, and was sitting out for a good while because he was chip-leading the $10,000 NL $1.5 million guaranteed WCOOP High Roller online. He ended up shipping the whole thing for almost half a million USD, and now sits near the top of the counts in this $2 million guaranteed event. He is also well-known for his heads-up chop in the 2016 EPT Prague High Roller after he earned himself better than ICM to allow William Kassouf to take home the title and trophy. He now has a High Roller win to himself after steam-rolling the field on Day 2 today.

Keep an eye out for the Winnipeg native as he sits atop the leader board hunting for back-to-back titles this week!
