Will the Real POY Please Stand Up

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante
Danzer vs Shack-Harris
Danzer vs Shack-Harris

This past weekend, George Danzer passed Brandon Shack-Harris atop the 2014 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leaderboard, which is a race hotly contested between the two. Shack-Harris has exacted some revenge by eliminating Danzer for Event #4 and giving himself a freeroll to valuable POY points.

In what would be Danzer's final hand, the player on the button opened for 1,300 an Danzer three-bet to 3,400 from the small blind. Shack-Harris then four-bet to 8,200 from the big, the original raiser folded, and Danzer moved all in for 15,750. Shack-Harris called and it was off to the races.

Shack-Harris: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Danzer: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Danzer needed to improve, but that proved easier said than done as the board ran out a clean {3-Spades}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}. With that, Danzer sent his $500 bounty chip to his arch rival (the two have actually become good friends).

Next Bounty for Shack-Harris

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante
Piyush Gupta
Piyush Gupta

It took Brandon Shack-Harris until level nine to claim his first bounty in George Danzer and the American just added Piyush Gupta to that lost only a few minutes later. Gupta open-shoved for the third time as of lately and was at risk for his last 6,500 with {A-} {10-}.

Shack-Harris called with {A-} {J-} on the button and all other players folded. The board delivered no upset and the American trails way above average.

Bounties for Tran and Phan

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Tien Phan had a short stack at risk with {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} and held up versus {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts} on a board of {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} {10-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}.

Two tables over, Henry Tran just flat-called a raise from the player in under the gun and the player on the button moved all in for what looked like 11,000. The initial raiser folded but Tran called immediately and turned over {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. He faced {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} and received the $500 bounty chip after the board ran out {Q-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {10-Spades} {8-Clubs}.

Bowen Busts Duhamel and Kuo

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Jonathan Duhamel raised to 1,700 and David Bowen three-bet to 4,200. The Canadian moved all in for approximately 20,000 with pocket nines and Bowen made the call with {10-Clubs} {10-Spades}. There was no surprise on the {2-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} board and Bowen stacked the chips.

He wasn't done yet when Kitty Kuo moved into the one seat and got her stack of 11,000 chips in preflop with {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}. Bowen snap-called with {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} and scored the next bounty right away on a board of {2-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}. "Bring me the next one," he joked and sure enough a short stacked Minh Nguyen took the empty seat.

Ge Sends Damelian Packing

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante
Yanji Ge
Yanji Ge

From the small blind, Yanji Ge raised to 1,600 only to have Roberto Damelian three-bet to 5,000. Ge called and checked the {3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop with Damelian moving all in for 12,900. Ge instantly called and the cards were tabled.

Damelian: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Ge: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

With Damelian in bad shape, the turn and river landed the {K-Clubs} and {6-Hearts} to end his tournament shy of the money as Ge climbed to 68,000 in chips.

Colman and Birman Bust

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Josh Barrett raised from under the gun and Julius Colman moved all in for around 8,000 in chips. Barrett called with {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} and turned the nut straight versus {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} on a board of {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {J-Hearts} {10-Spades} {10-Clubs}.

The seat of Colman wasn't cold yet when Andrew Smith sat down and picked up {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} in his very first hand. One seat over, Paul Birman was unfortunate enough to find {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} as short stack and wished all opponents "good luck guys" after the turn. He was already drawing dead and the board ran out {3-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {8-Spades} {3-Spades}.

Phan Runs into Neilson's Kings

Level 10 : 400/800, 100 ante
Daniel Neilson
Daniel Neilson

Daniel Neilson opened and Tien Phan three-bet to 4,000 before Neilson four-bet to 9,700. Pham responded by making it 19,700 only to have Neilson move all in for 88,000. Pham went deep into the tank - with time eventually being called - and with just a few second remaining, he called all in for his remaining 16,000.

Phan: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Neilson: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Phan hit the rail as Neilson soared to 130,000 in chips.
