"I Wasn't Folding"

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Daniel Negreanu opened for 300 under the gun and Mike Leah called from middle position. The player in the big blind came along, and three players saw a flop of {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{a-Spades}. The big blind checked, Negreanu continued for 500, and only Leah called.

Negreanu then check-called a bet of 1,250 on the {J-Hearts} turn before both players checked the {3-Spades} river. Leah flashed the {10-Diamonds} for two pair, but it was no good as Negreanu had flopped Broadway with the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

"I wasn't folding," Negreanu said with a laugh.

Small One for Shack-Harris

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

An early-position player opened for 375 and Brandon Shack-Harris opted to defend from the big blind. Both players proceeded to check the {5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop, and then Shack-Harris led out for 475 on the {6-Spades} turn. His opponent called him, the {8-Clubs} completed the board on the river, and Shack-Harris kept the pressure on with a bet of 1,200. It did the trick as Shack-Harris' opponent quickly folded.

Barer Gives It Up

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

An under-the-gun player opened for 325 and the player on the button called. Reigning Aussie Millions champ Ami Barer then three-bet to 1,225 from the small blind, Phil Hellmuth folded the big, and the original raiser called. The button got out of the way and it was heads-up action to the {k-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop.

Barer checked, his opponent bet 775, and Barer quickly folded. Not much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on the stacks of Hellmuth and Barer.

Honeyman & Duhamel Hit the Rail

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Dylan Honeyman got his last 7,000 or so all in holding the {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} on a board reading {6-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, but unfortunately for him Mike Subacius had him crushed with the {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}. The {9-Clubs} river was no help to Honeyman, and he was eliminated from the tournament while Subacius pulled out to the early chip lead.

Meanwhile, 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel was eliminated from the tournament after getting his short stack all in preflop holding {10-}{10-}. He was primed to double through an opponent holding {8-}{8-}, but a third eight on the flop put a dagger through Duhamel's heart.

Australian Rules Poker

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

If you're going to play in a different country, you'd better know the rules.

With around 3,000 in the pot and a board reading {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}, a player in late position checked out of turn. Daniel Negreanu, who was supposed to act, then bet 1,600 from the small blind, and his opponent moved all in.

"Wait a minute," Negreanu said. He wanted clarification on the rule and it just so happened Tournament Director Jack Effel was standing nearby.

"Actually he can only call," Effel informed the table. "It's not my rule, it's an Australian rule."

Effel then explained had the player bet out of turn, then he could have raised it, but since he checked his only option was to either fold or call. The player opted for the latter, and then moved all in when Negreanu checked the {7-Clubs} river.

"Alright, I missed," Negreanu laughed as he folded his hand. His opponent then showed the straight with the {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

"I Lose Everyday, but I Love It" - Phil Hellmuth

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante
Ami Barer and Phill Hellmuth
Ami Barer and Phill Hellmuth

We saw 13-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth standing at his table, and we rushed over to see what was going on. We arrived to see Hellmuth all in against two players, including reigning Aussie Millions champ Ami Barer.

From what we could piece together from Hellmuth's ramblings after the fact, it was a five-bet pot and Barer had "snap-called it off with king-queen offsuit."

Hellmuth: {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}
Barer: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Third Player: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}

Hellmuth got it in good, but Barer flopped pure when the {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{q-Spades} flop gave him a full house. The {9-Diamonds} turn guaranteed him the pot, and just to rub salt in the wound the dealer put the {7-Clubs} on the river to give Hellmuth a meaningless full house of his own.

"I lose everyday, but I love it," Hellmuth said as he shook hands with the table. Hellmuth then explained he has been playing great here at the WSOP APAC, but players have been sucking out on him.

The Magician Disappears

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

Antonio Esfandiari, who was coming off a cash in Event #1 $1,100 No-Limit Hold'em Accumulator, jumped straight into Event #2, but back-to-back cashes isn't in his future.

We missed Esfandiari's elimination hand, but Jonathan Little was kind enough to fill us in on what happened. According to him, a player opened for 500 and another called. Esfandiari then three-bet to 1,550 from the big blind, the original raiser moved all in for approximately 5,000, and the limped folded. Esfandiari called off with {a-}{q-}, but he was dominated as his opponent held {q-}{q-}. The {q-}{6-}{2-} flop left Esfandiari in need of running aces, but that didn't happen as both the turn and river blanked.

Meanwhile, 2012 Aussie Millions champ Oliver Spiedel has also been eliminated from the tournament.
