Day 1b Concludes With Boissenot as Leader

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Grégoire Boissenot - Day 1b Chip Leader
Grégoire Boissenot - Day 1b Chip Leader

Day 1b of the World Poker Tour Season XI Grand Prix de Paris is over, and nobody accumulated more chips than French singer Grégoire Boissenot. Boissenot shot up the charts near the end of the night, and was the only player to even flirt with a six-figure stack, finishing the day with 95,000 chips.

A total of 132 players registered on Day 1b, and if you combine that number with Day 1a's entrants, you get 228 total players. Only 92 survived on Day 1b, so a total of 143 players will return for Day 2.

Peter Jetten (83,575) and Matt Salsberg (83,575) - no, that's not a typo - both finished Day 1b with healthy stacks. Jetten climbed steadily throughout the day, while Salsberg was down to his last 8,000 during the first few levels. Salsberg then received a large double up through Vanessa Selbst when he flopped a set of queens. Selbst shoved with straight and flush draws, but bricked on the river.

Joining Jetten and Salsberg tomorrow are Antoine Saout (77,795), Mohsin Charania (72,250), Salman Behbehani (71,900), Michael Mizrachi (69,750), Fabrice Soulier (62,500), and Tony G (62,450).

Selbst was eliminated shortly after, but she wasn't the only notable to hit the rail today - Heinz Kamutzki, Dan O'Brien, Guillaume Darcourt, Guillaume Rivet, Roberto Romanello, JC Alvarado, and Darren Elias all busted before the seventh level came to a close.

Tomorrow at 3 p.m. CEST, the entire field will be under one roof for the first time. Jacques Enjoubault is the overall chip leader with an astounding 225,200 chips, and he's followed by Antony Lellouche (178,275) and Basil Yaiche (142,475), who also played on Day 1a.

We hope to see you again tomorrow for Day 2. Good night from Paris!

Tony G Avoids Bad Beat

Tony G and Jungleman sandwich Kristy during a break

On Day 1a, Tony G was eliminated holding two kings against an opponent's pocket nines. He nearly received another bad beat moments ago when he called a 25,000-chip five-bet shove with two red aces. His opponent tabled {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, and the flop fell {9-Spades}{5-Spades}{k-Spades}. Any spade or any king would've doubled Tony G's opponent, but the turn and river bricked {9-Clubs}, {7-Hearts} respectively.

"Nearly got there," Tony G blurted after the hand. "You had everything coming."

Mohsin Charania
Mohsin Charania

A player opened to 1,000 in middle position, Mohsin Charania called on the button, a player in the small blind called as well, and Gabriel Nassif three-bet out of the big blind, making it 4,000 straight. Only Charania called.

The flop fell {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, and both players checked. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and Nassif check-called 3,200 from Charania. The {8-Diamonds} paired the board on the river, and both players checked again.

Charania rolled over {a-Spades}{10-Spades} for tens and eights, and Nassif mucked his hand.

Heinz Heads Out

Heinz Kamutzki - Eliminated
Heinz Kamutzki - Eliminated

Heinz Kamutzki and two other opponents saw a flop of {8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Kamutzki led out for 1,700, one player released, and the third made the call.

The turn was the {j-Clubs}, and Kamutzki led again - this time for 3,300. The player moved all in for effectively 12,000, and Kamutzki called all in for less.

Kamutzki tabled {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for two kings, but he was dominated by his opponent's {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for a queen-high straight. The {j-Spades} repeated on the river, and Kamutzki was eliminated.

Darcourt Done

Guillaume Darcourt - Eliminated
Guillaume Darcourt - Eliminated

Guillaume Darcourt opened in early position, Idris Ambraisse three-bet on his direct left, and when the action folded back to Darcourt, he four-bet to 5,500. Ambraise five-bet jammed for just under 30,000, and Darcourt went into the tank.

While Darcourt was tanking, Ambraisse grabbed his seat card and tossed it in the middle with his chips, smiling. Darcourt eventually made the call, and was well ahead of Ambraisse.

Darcourt: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Ambraisse: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Darcourt's lead vanished quickly however, because the {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop hit Ambraisse right in the head. The {7-Clubs} on the turn gave Darcourt a flush draw, but the {k-Spades} on the river was no help, eliminating him from the tournament.

Jelassi Forces Two Out

Ramzi Jelassi
Ramzi Jelassi

Ramzi Jelassi opened to 700 from under the gun, a player in middle position called, and a third player defended his big blind. The flop fell {3-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}, the player in the big blind checked, and Jelassi continued for 1,400. The player in middle position raised to 3,000, the player in the big blind cold-called, and Jelassi called as well.

The turn was the {9-Hearts}, all three players checked, and the {q-Clubs} completed the board. The player in the big blind checked a third time, Jelassi fired 6,800, and the player in middle position immediately folded.

The player in the big blind went into the tank. He cut out more than enough chips to make the call, re-stacked them, then began talking to himself in French. Eventually, he grimaced then folded, showing the {j-Diamonds}.

Jelassi mucked his hand facedown, and raked in the pot.
