Day 2 Ends with Gruissem in the Lead

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Philipp Gruissem - Day 2 Chip Leader
Philipp Gruissem - Day 2 Chip Leader

Day 2 of the World Poker Tour Season XI Grand Prix de Paris began with 143 of the original 228 runners, and after four levels of play, only 63 players remain with Philipp Gruissem as your chip leader with 280,600 chips.

Gruissem shot up the charts in the middle of Day 2 and was a nuisance to his tablemates, especially Peter Jetten. In one particular hand, Jetten opened to 2,500 from the cutoff seat, Salman Behbehani called on the button, and Jetten three-bet to 10,600 from the small blind. Gruissem called, Behbehani released, and the dealer fanned {8-Spades}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades}. Jetten led out for 12,000, Gruissem raised to 28,000, and Jetten called. The turn was the {10-Diamonds}, and Jetten opted to check-fold when Gruissem fired 38,000.

Jetten took a nice-sized pot off of Gruissem a few orbits later however, and finished the night with 156,600 chips.

Gruissem wasn't the only player able to accumulate chips throughout the day, Bryan Colin (243,300), Matt Salsberg (229,700), Juha Helppi (222,800), and Giacomo Fundaro (216,100) all finished with over 200,000 chips.

Antony Lellouche, who finished the day with 184,500 chips, climbed the leader board the entire day, and won a nice-sized pot when he eliminated WPT Champions Club Member Scott Seiver. Lellouche, Seiver and a third player took a flop of {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} in a raised pot. The original raiser tossed out a continuation bet, Seiver moved all in for around 20,000, and Lellouche flat-called. The original raiser folded, and Lellouche tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} - the nuts.

Seiver was drawing live with {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, but neither the turn ({2-Spades}) or the river ({3-Spades}) filled him up, and he was eliminated.

Michael Mizrachi, a fellow WPT Champions Club Member, was also eliminated during play today. The two-time $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner got the rest of his chips in the middle with two nines, but was dominated by Antonio Subtil's pocket kings.

Joining Mizrachi and Seiver on the rail were, among others, Jonathan Duhamel, Kara Scott, Casey Kastle, Davidi Kitai, Stephen O'Dwyer, Nicolas Levi, Andrew Seidman, Ramzi Jelassi, Igor Kuranov, and the Season X Grand Parix de Paris winner Matt Waxman.

Midway through the day, the official prize pool information was released. A total of €1,624,500 will be dispersed amongst the top 27 finishers, with the minimum cash being €13,305. If you are fortunate enough to make the final table, you'll earn a minimum of €75,765. Win, and you'll pocket €400,000, which includes a seat in the $25,000 WPT World Championship in May.

Day 3 will begin tomorrow at 1500 CEST, so check back for all of your up-to-the-minute updates. For now, good night from Paris!

Marvin Rettenmaier (Day 1a) is out.

Peter Jetten opened things up with a raise to 3,000 from under the gun. Dominik Nitsche called in the cutoff, Philipp Gruissem called on the button, Salman Behbehani called in the small blind, and "Mad" Marvin Rettenmaier moved all in for 11,400 from the big blind. Jetten re-raised to 20,000, Nitsche moved all in for 54,700, and the action folded back to Jetten, who called.

Jetten: {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Nitsche: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Rettenmaier: {k-Hearts}{9-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, eliminating Rettenmaier from the tournament.

Smith Sent Off

If this was a $5K event, Smith would still be in

Dan Smith open-jammed for his last 9,600 from middle position. The action folded to the player in the big blind, who laughed and folded {9-}{6-} face up.

The very next hand, Smith open-jammed again, and the action folded to Juha Helppi who instantly called out of the big blind. Helppi's {8-Hearts}{8-Spades} crushed Smith's {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}, and held as the board came {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

Lellouche Flops Nuts, Busts Seiver

Scott Seiver (Day 1b) - Eliminated
Scott Seiver (Day 1b) - Eliminated

Scott Seiver was faced with a preflop raise to 2,000. He called near the button, Lellouche called in the blinds, and the flop fell {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. The action checked to the original raiser, who slid out a continuation bet of 2,700, and Seiver moved all in for around 20,000. Lellouche flat-called, the original raiser released, and the hands were opened.

Showdown
Seiver: {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Lellouche: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Seiver didn't fill up on the turn ({2-Spades}) or the river ({3-Spades}), and he was eliminated.

Lellouche is now our overwhelming chip leader, and is flirting with 300,000 chips.

Yaiche Cracks Jaka's Aces

Basil Yaiche cracks Faraz Jaka's aces
Basil Yaiche cracks Faraz Jaka's aces

When we arrived at the table, the board read {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}. {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} was laying in front of Basil Yaiche, and Faraz Jaka was cutting out stacks of chips.

Tablemate Jason Mercier was kind enough to fill us in on the details of the hand, and it all started with a min-raise from Mercier. Yaiche called on his left, Jaka three-bet to 7,200, and the action folded back to Yaiche who four-bet to 14,400. Jaka moved all in, Yaiche snapped it off, and Jaka tabled two aces.

The rest is history.

Yaiche, who started the day as one of the leaders, is back above six-figures, while Jaka has just over 11 big blinds.

Matt Waxman (Day 1a) - Out

The defending champion of the Grand Prix de Paris is gone.

We just saw Matt Waxman exit the Aviation Club de France, and when we went to his table to find out what happened, two-time WPT Champion Marvin Rettenmaier gave us the scoop.

According to Rettenmaier, Waxman four-bet shoved holding {a-}{k-}, and was called by Ekrem Sanioglu, who had {q-}{q-}. The queens held, and Waxman was eliminated.
