Van der Ven "Left His Balls at Home", Boyaciyan Steals a Big One

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
David Boyaciyan
David Boyaciyan

As we approached table 21, Dutch online pro Floris van der Ven and MCOP champion and two time EPT Prague finalist David Boyaciyan were tangling in a rather large pot. After the hand concluded both players and Fatima Moreira de Melo who was sitting in between the two of 'em, were all smiles. So we were kind of obligated to invest what had happened.

Boyaciyan was first to open up, and he told his version of what had happened, with a smily Moreira de Melo adding some context and details every now and then.

Boyaciyan told us a player limped and he made a raise from the button. "550!' Moreira de Melo added. Floris van der Ven in the big blind three-bet to 1,600 and the limper folded. Boyaciyan told us he wasn't convinced by Van der Ven's strength, "so I floated, I mean I called" laughed Boyaciyan.

On a flop of {5-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, Van der Ven made a "weak bet of 1,300" Boyaciyan laughed, "He showed insecurity, so I floated again."

The {9-Clubs} on the turn made Van der Ven bet 3,000 and Boyaciyan floated one more time.

The {K-Clubs} fell on the river and Van der Ven now checked. Boyaciyan made a bet of 6,200 and Van der Ven eventually mucked. Boyaciyan "He hesitated for a bit, thinking about making a move, but he left his balls at home and folded"

Van der Ven told us he had {A-}{J-}, but we'll never know for sure if that was the case. Boyaciyan plays almost 40,000, Van der Ven dropped down to 24,000.

De Korver Takes Dion's Chips

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante
Yann Dion
Yann Dion

Pieter de Korver just told one of our colleagues how he took most of Yann Dion's chips, and here's how the action went.

Dion raise before the flop and De Korver three-bet holding pocket queens. The flop came down {Q-}{4-}{5-} and Dion checked to De Korver who bet 1,400 and the French Canadian pro raised it up to 4,100.

De Korver called and the turn was another {5-}. Both players checked and the river was another {8-}.

Dion bet 11,500 on the river and De Korver raised it up to 30,000 with his full house, and Dion made the call. Dion mucked his cards, but a {7-} flashed, and De Korver thought his opponent might've had {6-}{7-} for a straight.

A few hands later Dion busted while De Korver sits on 128,000 chips.

The WPT National Valkenburg Champ Is Gone

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante
Niels van Leeuwen when he won the WPTN Valkenburg
Niels van Leeuwen when he won the WPTN Valkenburg

Alexey Pak raised it to 1,300 under the gun and Pieter de Korver made the call in position. Niels van Leeuwen on the button squeezed to 4,400 and the small blind folded. Big blind Nico Kuan tanked for a fair bit, before shoving all in for 41,500. Pak and De Korver folded, and Van Leeuwen asked to see how much it was. Even before the dealer really started counting, Van Leeuwen said "Yeah, never mind, I'll call anyway."

Nico Kuan: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Niels van Leeuwen: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and Nico Kuan doubled, leaving Van Leeuwen behind with just 3,800. With 75 for the ante, the next hand action folded to Van Leeuwen in the small blind and he glanced at his cards before announcing "Yeah, let's just do it" as he moved in.

Rob Yong on the button folded but Kuan was interested again. Kuan three-bet to 8,000 and Pak folded his big blind. "Yeah, you can take the rest as well" Van Leeuwen said with a sincere voice.

Nico Kuan: {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Niels van Leeuwen: {9-Spades}{6-Spades}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and Van Leeuwen wished the table good luck before making his exit. With the departure of Van Leeuwen, the only Dutch World Poker Tour National champion is out of the tournament. He still has the option to re enter, but we doubt he's going to at this point.

Mizzi Getting Busy, Busts Kenney

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Sorel Mizzi and Bryn Kenney
Sorel Mizzi and Bryn Kenney

Bryn Kenney walked by the media room, mentioned he busted but was still in time two register two online tournaments, and would be back here tomorrow morning to register just before Day 2. He fist bumped the reporters and made his way to the exit while playing on his iPhone.

There was no time to ask him what had happened as everything just went by so fast, but luckily for us, one of our colleagues got the details.

Sorel Mizzi opened to 1,600 and Bryn Kenney made it 4,200 to go. Mizzi made the call. With {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} on the flop, Mizzi check-called a bet of 4,500 from Kenney.

The {Q-Diamonds} hit the turn and Mizzi checked again. Kenney wasn't backing down though and bet 10,000 with about 10,000 behind. Not much later, he called the rest as Mizzi check-shoved.

Sorel Mizzi: {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Bryn Kenney: {A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}

Kenny needed a diamond to stay alive, but wouldn't get it. Instead the {7-Clubs} popped up and Kenney hit the rail. Mizzi is one of the bigger stacks in the room after this hand.

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Michael Mizrachi moved all in for his final 3,500 and Jolmer Meelis called his shove from the big blind.

Meelis tabled {A-}{K-} and he was well ahead against {A-}{8-}, but the flop turned things around when {Q-}{9-}{8-} popped up.

The turn was a {4-} and the river a {K-} and that sealed it for Mizrachi. He got knocked out again and Meelis added the chips to his stack.

Daniel Reijmer Eliminated

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Daniel Reijmer
Daniel Reijmer

The player under the gun limped in for 800 and Daniel Reijmer in middle position followed suit by tossing in 800 as well. Steve O'Dwyer on the button, and both blinds called as well.

The flop came {4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and action checked to Reijmer. The Dutchman bet 3,300 and O'Dwyer called from the button. The small blind folded, big blind Walter Buss in the big blind called, the player under the gun folded.

The {J-Clubs} fell on the turn and Buss checked. Reijmer shoved all in for 26,800 and O'Dwyer called after some tanking. Buss folded.

Daniel Reijmer: {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Steve O'Dwyer: {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

The {5-Spades} on the river gave Reijmer trips, but that wasn't good enough to beat O'Dwyer.

Newey All in Blind on the Final Hand

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Paul Newey
Paul Newey

"I'm all in on the last hand," Paul Newey just announced as the penultimate hand was going on.

The players at the table laughed, and some weren't sure whether he was joking or being serious.

"I only have about 17,000," Newey said, as he moved all in without looking at his cards on the final hand.

Clyde Tjauw Foe, who doesn't back down from a bit of action, peeked down at his cards and folded them with a big smile after which the player in the small blind called. Jean Montury folded {A-}{J-} face up from the big blind and the showdown went as following.

Newey turned over his cards one by one, and revealed {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}.

The crowd laughed, and his opponent tabled {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}.

The board ran out {4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{K-Spades} and Newey did not manage to double up.

"I'll be back tomorrow," Newey said with a big smile, as he will use his option to re-enter before the start of play on Day 2.
