Matthieu Sustrac Eliminated

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

PokerNews France editor in chief Matthieu Sustrac entered the event not too long ago but has just been eliminated. He played a total of 70 minutes, a disappointed Sustrac told us.

A player in early position limped in for 400 and someone in middle position raised to 1,100. The player on the button, who had tangled with Sustrac the hand before, flat called.

Sustrac, seated in the small blind, squeezed to 4,600 and the big blind, limper and player that raised, all folded. The button back raised to 11,000, putting Sustrac to the test. Sustrac made it 23,000 and called the shove for 41,000 total that followed.

Sustrac had {A-}{K-} suited and was in bad shape against the {A-}{A-} of his neighbor. Sustrac picked up a flush draw on the turn bur the river blanked and Sustrac hit the rail.

Garcia Can't Beat Top Pair Top Kicker

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

We picked up the action on a flop of {2-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{10-Spades} where we saw Fernando Pons Garcia bet 1,100 from the big blind. His opponent, seated on the button, called.

Garcia, the Spanish November Niner who'll start the WSOP final table short-stacked, bet another 1,525 on the {9-Spades} turn. Again, his opponent called.

The {5-Spades} completed the board and Garcia checked. The button bet a mere 1,600 and Garcia called, only to muck upon being shown {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

Boatman Down, But Not (Entirely) Out Yet

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante
Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman

Barny Boatman just sat down with a crisp 30,000-stack. While a hand at his new table was still going on, he told us the details of his bust outs minutes before, which had forced him to reenter.

An early position raiser was playing tight, so Boatman put him on a big hand when he raised. Another player called and a player in position, who had been squeezing a lot, raised as expected.

Boatman, with {A-}{A-} in the big blind, thought there was a big chance that if he would just call, the initial raiser would come over the top again. And so Boatman just called, but his plan didn't work out as both players called and they saw a flop with no less than four players.

The flop came {8-}{9-}{10-} with two diamonds and Boatman was first to act. He thought his hand would look like a draw if he would just push right there. Besides, he only had a pot-sized stack behind so his options were limited. He went all in and again his plan backfired. No less than two players called, both with a better hand than Boatman.

Boatman was up against a set of nines and a set of tens and needed to hit one of the two remaining aces to stay alive. He failed to hit and headed back to the registration desk to buy back in. 30,000 chips for Boatman, another shot at Morrocan glory.
