Alex Foxen added yet another major poker title to his long list of accomplishments after taking down the WPT Online Series High Roller event.

The 38th event on the WPT Online Series schedule was a $10,300 buy-in affair that attracted 101 players to the partypoker virtual felt. Those entrants created a $1,010,000 prize pool that the top 17 finishers shared.

Day 1 ended on May 30 and saw the 101 starters whittled down to a more manageable 17. Ali Imsirovic busted in 18th place, bursting the money bubble, and bringing the curtain down on proceedings.

The 17 surviving players returned to their seats on May 31 with Simon Mattsson leading them back into battle.

Leonard Oliver Maue was the first casualty of Day 2. Joao Vieira, who started the evening eighth in chips, crashed out in 16th place. Team partypoker’s Kristen Bicknell ran out of steam in 15th place; Bicknell was the last surviving member of partypoker’s stable.

Sosia Jiang, Dario Sammartino, Enrico Camosci, Swedish legend Niklas Astedt, Roman Moroziuk, and Daniel Smiljkovic all bust in succession, before Sam Greenwood bowed out in eighth place to set the final table.

The final table read like a who’s who of the poker world, as you would expect from such a prestigious tournament. The waters grew less shark-infested with the eliminations of Rok Gostisa and Shawn Daniels, but there were still some elite players in the hunt for the quarter of a million dollars top prize.

Leon Sturm and Samuel Vousden crashed out, the latter’s elimination awarding $80,847, the last prize not to be worth six figures.

Elio Fox’s tournament ended in a third-place finish worth $117,344, and left start-of-the-day chip leader Mattsson heads-up against Foxen. The two poker Goliaths fought tooth and nail in their one-on-one encounter, but only one man could emerge from the battle victoriously.

Foxen was that man. His reward was a place in the WPT Online Series history books plus a cash prize weighing in at a cool $252,288. Mattsson headed into the night with a $168,093 consolation prize nestled safely in his partypoker account.
