Luck Be a Lady

Joanne Monteavaro
Joanne Monteavaro
Joanne Monteavaro is the lone lady left in the field, and she is representing her fellow women of poker proudly tonight. We join her involved in another growing pot, heads up with a male player at her table.

In a raised pot, the flop shows {7-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}. With the action on Monteavaro, her opponent began to prod at her. "Just check. You should think about checking." (*chuckle*) "It'll be Phil Hellmuth style."

"Just curious, what's Phil Hellmuth style?" asked the lady.

"Just check and you'll find out," quipped the other player, still chuckling to himself.

With that, Monteavaro forcefully slid forward 25,000 chips, enough to cover her opponent. He instantly called.

Showdown:
Monteavaro: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Opponent: {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}

Looking for some big help, the turn was a good miss for the all-in player, as the {K-Hearts} gave him the added benefit of a flush draw. Unfortunately for him, the {2-Clubs} blanked off on the river, spelling his demise. He quickly stood from the table and walked straight out of the room, as his table pondered his final hand in his absence.

"What was he doing?" someone mumbled.

"I don't know," Monteavaro chimed in. "He was sure I was bluffing, but I'm playing so tight. Everyone always thinks I'm bluffing, but I haven't bluffed once."

She doesn't need to; she has moved up near the top of the board, sitting now with 115,000.
