Sands Runs Out of Chips

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Dave "Doc" Sands
Dave "Doc" Sands

In early position, Eugene Katchalov raised to 7,000, and Todd Terry flat-called two seats over. On the button, Doc Sands squeezed all in for 80,500, and Katchalov called to put him at risk. Terry was apparently contemplating a big decision, though, and it took a few minutes for him to finally surrender, flashing his {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs} as he did. Sands was at risk, and it was showdown time:

Katchalov: {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs}
Sands: {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades}

Sands couldn't find anything useful on the {A-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {10-Hearts} {K-Spades} {5-Clubs} board, and he has been eliminated in 25th place. Sands was the last one left of the four finalists from the Midwest Regional Championship who played this event. His exit guarantees a fresh set of faces for the second of the televised Regionals, the stage for which is being constructed in the room next door as we speak.
