Table 4

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

With the eliminations come broken tables; as such, one table in the room has become one of the toughest in the tournament. Table 4 is currently home to Traci Brown, La Sengphet, and Tommy Vedes. Lucky for them all, there is only one level left in the night and the Day 2 table redraw.

Up and Down for Talbot

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Bob Talbot
Bob Talbot

Bob Talbot raised to 15,000 from the button only to have the player in the big blind move all in for 21,700 more. Talbot called and the cards were turned up:

Talbot: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

Talbot was in bad shape but picked up a flush draw when the flop came down {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. The {9-Spades} on the turn left Talbot needing a club or queen on the river, but it was not meant to be as the {K-Hearts} hit. Talbot was left with just 8,700.

On the very next hand, a player in middle position limped, the hijack raised to 17,400, and Talbot called off for 8,400. The rest of the player got out of the way and the cards were flipped:

Talbot: {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}
Hijack: {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

It was a classic race as the flop fell {10-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Talbot was still behind, but that all changed when the {Q-Clubs} spiked on the turn. The {5-Clubs} was put out on the river and Talbot got a much needed double to a little over 17,000.

Action Slowing

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

With the end of the night approaching, players seem content to sit on their stacks and try to coast to Day 2. The big pots are few and far between, but we imagine the big blinds and antes will force the action before too long.

Although we didn't have any Full Tilt pros in the field today, you can bet they'll be making an appearance at the next Regional Championship in San Diego. Television coverage is planned as part of the newly revamped WSOP Circuit and it should bring out tons of big names.

We know our coverage is riveting and all, but we also know how well your are at multi-tasking. How about signing up for a Full Tilt Poker account and getting on the virtual felt? After all, it is where you can "Learn, Chat and Play with the Pros."

More Numbers

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

While the official number of Day 1 survivors won't be known until after the completion of this level, the tournament board currently says 115 players remain. If that number stood at the end of the night, the math would work out as follows:

16 levels played @ 40 minutes each = 640 minutes of play

480 starting field - 115 survivors = 365 eliminations

365 eliminations/640 minutes of play = 0.57 players busted per minutes on Day 1

In other words, about one player busted, on average, every two minutes from this tournament.

Tommy Vedes Second in Chips Heading Into Day 2

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The latest World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Harrah's in Tunica, Mississippi got underway today with 480 players forking over the $1,500 buy-in, creating a prize pool of $698,400. The field was full of participants eager to claim the $148,612 first-place prize, a gold championship ring, and points toward the WSOPC National Leaderboard. Unfortunately not everyone’s dream would come true. By the end of the night, 369 had fallen in Day 1 action, leaving 111 players to return tomorrow for Day 2. Leading the way is Dale Slatton with 246,400; however, right on his heels is none other than Tommy Vedes, who sits with a stack of 246,300.

The Tunica stop marks the halfway point in the 2010/2011 WSOPC schedule and players were eager to secure a spot in the WSOPC National Championship, a $1 million freeroll bracelet event that will take place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from May 27 to 29, 2011, and will be televised nationally on the Versus network. At the circuit stops (as opposed to the regional championships), there are only two ways to qualify: win the Main Event or be the highest point earner during the stop, AKA the "Casino Champ". Otherwise, players can accumulate points based upon their performance to climb the leaderboard. If they have enough when the circuit season ends, they’ll be in.

Some of the players who’ve been grinding the WSOPC stops competing for points, and who were in the field today, were Joel Merwick (105 points), Kevin Calenzo (167.5 points), Chris Tryba (65 points), Stephen Kats (82.5 points), Dwyte Pilgrim (60 points), Mark “Pegasus” Smith (97.5 points), Faris Nasserazad (75 points), and La Sengphet (52.5 points). Unfortunately many of these players were unable to get anything going. Smith, Nasserazad, Tryba, and Pilgrim all hit the rail early. They were joined by other recognizable names such as Kenny “Badhat” Piel, Corrie Wunstel, “Cowboy” John Land and Justin Kruger.

While many of the day’s notables failed to survive, other managed to thrive. Sengphet, who won a gold ring in an earlier event, ended the day with 87,900; coincidentally, a fifth-place finish or better in the Main event will give her the title of “Casino Champion”, which currently belongs to two-time Harrah’s Tunica circuit ring winner Kyle Cartwright, and ensure her a spot in the National Championship. Likewise, ring-winners Tripp Kirk (59,800) and Jessie Bryant (33,800) can grab the title by accomplishing the same feat. Maurice Hawkins could get it done with a second-place finish as well. Another player who found success on Day 1 was Kats, who jumped out to an early chip lead of nearly 200,000. Unfortunately for him, his lead had diminished by the end of the night and he was left with 83,100. Also surviving to Day 2 were Rusty Boyker (244,000), Bob Talbot (87,100), Calenzo (66,000), Preston Derden (101,600), and Kurt Jewell (117,300).

Day 2 of the WSOPC Harrah’s Tunica is set to begin at Noon CST on Monday. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be present throughout the tournament bringing you all the action and eliminations as we look to crown another WSOPC Main Event champion and find the next two qualifiers for the WSOPC National Championship.
