Kats Eliminates Kim

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Stephen Kats
Stephen Kats

James Fox rasied to 8,000 under the gun only to have Stephen Kats move all in from middle position for 74,500. Action folded around to Chris Kim in the big blind and he was faced with a tough decision as he looked down at a pocket pair. He had close to the same amount as Kats, but a call would mean his tournament life. A call is what he settled on and the cards were turned up after Fox slyly got out of the way:

Kim: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Kats: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

Kats was out in front with his kings and stayed there as the board ran out {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. With that, Kim was eliminated from the WSOPC Harrah's Tunica Main Event while Kats is up to around 160,000.

It is worth noting that Fox said he folded {A-}{J-}, which would have given him a full house and a monster pot had he called.

King on River Crushes Vedes

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Tommy Vedes, who started the day second in chips, has been headed in the opposite direction thus far on Day 2, largely due to lady luck. Vedes was kind enough to tell us about a recent hand where he held {A-}{9-} on a {9-}{10-}{2-}{9-} board. He was up against Jesse White, who held {Q-}{J-}, and all the money was in the pot, approximately 350,000 with White at risk. BINK . . . {K-} on the river to give White the straight and knock Vedes down to 115,000.

All That Glitters is Not Golden

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Action folded to Marty Golden on the button and he moved all in for his last 30,000 or so only to get called by Steven Curtin in the big blind.

Curtin: {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Golden: {K-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Curtin was out in front and remained there as the flop came down {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. The dealer proceeded to burn and turn the {10-Clubs}, another safe card for Curtin, followed by the {2-Clubs}. Just like that, Golden was eliminated from the tournament.

Racing Down Route 66

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Don Kidd put in a raise from middle position and was met with an all-in reraise for about 31,000 more by Michael Skorich. Action folded back to Kidd who reluctantly made the call.

Skorich: {A-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Kidd: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

It was off to the races as the flop came down {4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Kidd's sixes managed to hold on to the lead as they did through the {5-Diamonds} turn and {2-Hearts} river. Kidd took Route 66 to win the race and send Skorich to the rail.

Just Like That, Vedes is Out

Level 18 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Tommy Vedes, who started the day just T100 behind the chip leader, has amazingly been eliminated from the WSOPC Harrah's Tunica Main Event less than two levels into play.

As mentioned previously in our live reporting, he suffered a big hit early in the day. That was followed by what would be his last hand. It all began when Mohammed Ali Khan raised to 12,000 from the hijack and Vedes moved all in for around 52,000 more from the small blind. Khan made the call and the cards were turned up:

Vedes: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}
Khan: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}

It was a race and Vedes just couldn't catch up as the board ran out {Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Vedes, who was no doubt one of the favorites at the start of Day 2, was left with no chips and a slew of "what ifs".
