Sabat Bets Small on Flop, Big on River

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

On player called Eddy Sabat's bet of 200 on the flop of {6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts} before the dealer put the {5-Diamonds} out on the turn to pair the board. Sabat checked and his opponent checked.

The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds} and brought in a possible straight draw. Sabat fired 1,300 and his opponent folded.

Doug Lee: Smallest Chipstack Ever

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Doug Lee
Doug Lee

Well, there's the early fireworks.

When we walked up to the action, there was turned board reading {K-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {8-Spades} out on board, and Richard Yellend knocked the table from the small blind. A couple seats over, Steve Nixon fired out a bet of 3,200, and Doug lee flat-called for about a third of his remaining chips. When it came back to Yellend, however, he raised it up to 8,700, and Nixon tanked and called. Lee moved in for his small stack of 9,000 total, Yellend re-shoved (possibly incorrectly, according to the betting rules), and Nixon made the call. Just like that, about 45,000 chips were piled in the middle of the table, and both Nixon and Lee were at risk.

Showdown
Yellend: {A-Spades} {4-Spades} (nut flush)
Nixon: {J-Spades} {8-Clubs} (trips)
Lee: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} (queens full)

As the table collectively gasped at the big hands shown down, Lee mentioned the words, "Drawing dead."

Well, you know that that means.

Like a bolt of one-out lightning, the {8-Hearts} ripped off the deck and landed on the river, giving Nixon the unlikely quads and the double knockout. Lee and Yellend both stayed at the table for a minute, staring down at the dramatic board that had sealed both of their fates.

They're both outta here, while Nixon takes the early lead with just about 50,000 in front of him.

One-Eight-Seven

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

The number on the big registration has just ticked up to 187. We'd expect to see maybe 210-or-so total runners by the time the window closes in about 22 minutes.

Kim's Hand No Good

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

On the board of {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, Bryan Kim check-called a bet of 2,250. The {4-Diamonds} completed the board on the river and Kim checked again. His opponent checked and announced, "Sevens," before tabling the {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Kim mucked and was knocked back to 16,300 in chips.

Ms. Arnett is Ms. Aggressive

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Kristy Arnett
Kristy Arnett

From early position, Sam Chauhan raised and Louis Laxineta called from the next seat. Action then folded to Kristy Arnett on the button and she three-bet to 1,325. Both Chauhan and Laxineta called to see the {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop.

The first two players checked to Arnett and she bet 1,975. Chauhan tanked for a minute or two and then made the call. Laxineta folded.

The turn card brought the {9-Diamonds} and Chauhan passed action over to Arnett once more. Arnett paused and then bet 4,000. Chauhan quickly mucked his hand and Arnett won the pot to improve to 28,000 in chips.

Traylor Gets Arnett to Fold

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

From the cutoff seat, Kristy Arnett opened with a raise to 250, two and a half times the big blind. Michael Traylor, who placed third in the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Harvey's Lake Tahoe for $38,743, made the call from the big blind.

The flop was {K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and both players checked to move the action to fourth street where the {8-Hearts} landed. Traylor bet out 325 and Arnett made the call.

The final card to the board was the {J-Hearts} and Traylor bet 650. Arnett thought a minute and then mucked her hand, dropping back a tiny bit to 27,000 and change.

Gates Barreling Away

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante
Garry Gates
Garry Gates

One player limped form middle position and another from the hijack seat before Garry Gates raised to 650 from the button. Action folded back to the first limper, Kevin Lockhart, and he made the call. The other player folded.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Lockhart checked. Gates bet 700 and Lockhart made the call.

The turn brought the {J-Spades} and Lockhart check-called Gates' bet of 2,000 very quickly before the {7-Diamonds} fell on the river. Lockhart checked and Gates bet 5,000. Lockhart thought for a half a minute and then folded.

Gates won the pot without showdown and improved to 22,000 in chips, back over the starting amount.
