Easley Sits On Top After Day 1; 36 Players Remain

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Seneca Easley
Seneca Easley

Day 1 at the 2010-11 World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event here at Harrah's Rincon has come to a close after 16 levels of play. From the starting field of 188, only 36 remain. Topping them all is Seneca Easley with a whopping 323,000 in chips.

The money line is set at 21. That is more of an unusual number than most, especially with the fact that the tables are nine handed, but squeaking past that mark will net you at least $3,000. First place is set at $70,384.

The final four tables will recommence action tomorrow at 12:00 noon local time on the West Coast. After 15 more people hit the rail, everyone will be in the money and the quest for the final table will really start to heat up. Once the final table is reached, play will end for the day.

Here Comes Masek

Level 16 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

From under the gun, Eric Morton raised to 7,000. Alex Masek reraised from the button to 21,000 and Morton called when play got back to him.

The flop came down {J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Morton checked. Masek bet 34,800 and Morton quickly made the call.

The turn brought the {8-Clubs} and Morton checked with about 60,000 behind. Masek moved all in having him covered and Morton tanked. He thought for a couple of minutes before finally folding. Masek showed {A-}{K-} for just ace high and Morton wasn't too pleased to see that.

Masek now has about 195,000 in chips.

Action folded to Garry Gates in the small blind and he raised to 6,000. Seneca Easley called in the big blind and the flop came down {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Spades} and both players checked. The turn brought the {Q-Spades} and Gates bet 8,000. Easley folded and Gates won the pot. He's up to about 55,000 now.

Sabat Guesses Wrong End

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The hijack raised to 6,000 and Eddy Sabat called on the button. Patrick Karschamroon called from the big blind and the flop came down {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. Action checked over to Sabat and he bet 4,600. Karschamroon folded and the hijack seat made the call.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and both players checked. The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds} and the hijack seat bet 6,000. Sabat said that he thought his opponent had queens or sevens and then thought it over for a little bit before calling. The hijack seat showed the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and Sabat mucked his hand.

"Wanted it to be the other end," said Sabat.

One for Kruger

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

From early position, Andrew Moreno raised to 4,500. Justin Kruger called from the big blind and the flop came down {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Both players checked and the turn brought the {9-Hearts}. Kruger led for 5,000 and Moreno folded.

A-Mo Pulls a Double

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The table folded around to the hijack seat where Andrew Moreno stuck his last 22,700 into the middle of the felt. Two seats over, Lori Nunes reraised with a big stack of pink T5,000 chips, and that was enough to get her heads up with Moreno with a shot at claiming his bounty.

Showdown
Moreno: {9-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}
Nunes: {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades}

The {3-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} flop was not a good one for Moreno as Nunes pulled into a big lead with top pair. The flop was bad, but the turn {7-Spades} was the money card for the at-risk player. Moreno made his unbeatable straight, and the {9-Spades} river was just a formality.

Finding his card on the turn, Moreno has doubled his way back into contention with 51,000.

Karschamroon's Middle Set Nets Him Chip Lead

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

From under the gun, Matthew Chang raised to 5,000. Patrick Karschamroon called from the next seat, another player in middle position called, the cutoff seat called and then Eddy Sabat called in the big blind.

The five players saw the flop come down {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Sabat and Chang checked to Karschamroon. He bet 20,000 and the next player folded. The cutoff seat raised all in for 64,400. Sabat folded and then action fell on Chang. He tanked and tanked, for about seven minutes into the break before finally folding. Karschamroon snap-called and tabled the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for middle set. His opponent in the cutoff seat held the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}.

The turn was the {5-Hearts} and the river the {2-Diamonds} to keep Karschamroon's set of tens as the best hand. He eliminated his opponent and saw his chip stack swell to 230,000.

Chang was pacing back and forth behind the table, exciting about the good fold he claimed to just make. When some of the other tablemates asked what he had, he said that he laid down the other two queens. Still, as play rolls into the next levels, Chang is telling everyone about the great fold he fold. "Can you believe I laid that down?" he said.
