Cards are back in the air following the second 30 minute break of the day.
2011-12 World Series of Poker Circuit - Horseshoe Hammond
A lot of players do things to pass the time at the table, and one of the more popular options is Words With Friends. We recently passed by Will "Monkey" Souther's table and noticed he was fixed on his iPad. We didn't see them all, but here is a small sample of the words we noticed:
Paid
Overt
Pimp
Jet
Grown
Here
War
Fume
The last word there has often described Souther's temperament in the past, but we must admit that he has behaved like a gentleman the last few times we've seen him on the Circuit.

Kenny Nguyen opened under the gun for 1,100 and got three callers. The flop came
and action checked around. The turn brought the
and again action checked around. The river came
, the big blind checked and Nguyen bet 3050. The UTG+1 player called and the others folded.
Nguyen smiled and tabled
and the UTG+1 player frowned and said, "I knew you had king high but I didn't know the kicker," as he folded.
Nguyen took the pot with just king high and said to the table, "All you guys are just playing for second place."
Action folded to Dwyte Pilgrim on the button and he put in a raise to 1,275, which Tim Vance, who won the 2008 European Poker Tour Copenhagen for €834,590, called from the big blind. The latter proceeded to check-call a bet of 1,275 on the

flop, before both players checked the
turn and
river.
Vance then rolled over
for a pair of sixes, inspiring Pilgrim to rap the table and fold his hand.

We stumbled upon Chad Brown's table just in time to see him call a short-stacked opponent's all-in raise, which created a pot worth around 6,000.
Showdown
Brown:

Opponent:

Brown was in great shape and looking to dodge an ace, which is exactly what he did as the board ran out

. Not only did Mr. Vanessa Rousso manage to win the small pot, he was able to send an opponent to the rail.

We found this hand as both stacks were being shipped into the middle preflop. James Witt had raised, Chad Brown shoved and Witt called.
Brown:

Witt:

The board ran
and Witt made Broadway and Brown slipped to below the starting stack.

We didn't catch the hand, but it seems "Cowboy" John Land has been eliminated from the tournament. He had been nursing a short stack for most of the day, and it looks like his luck has finally run out. We'll have to wait and see if he'll be one of the players to re-enter tomorrow on Day 1b, which we expect many of today's bustouts to do.
